Marvel’s Spider-Man can be beaten relatively quickly if the primary focus is placed on the main story, but the side activities displayed throughout will double the playtime required. There are numerous storylines housed in this title, but experiencing them all will take a little extra effort.

Marvel’s Spider-Man’s The City That Never Sleeps DLC provides even more gameplay after the events of the main story, with each entry having a respectable duration and a variety of side activities. It adds: about 6 hours of story for the game, but completers will have to explore a little more to experience all it has to offer.

Complete Marvel’s Spider-Man

The main story

Marvel’s Spider Man Peter Parker faces off against the terrifying Mister Negative, a powerful enemy who calls on negative energy to achieve his sinister goals. He was once a nobleman who wanted to help those in need, but his lust for power led him down a dark path of rogue states. It takes about 17 hours of play to end Martin Li’s story, but only if the player dedicates himself completely to the main story and ignores all side activities.

Peter will make several shocking discoveries during his adventures, but uncovering the broken mind of his mentor, Otto Octavius, will add a few more hours to the game’s story. Defeating Martin Li is considered the sole purpose of the plot, but Otto’s questionable goals will force Peter to don his spider suit for a while longer.

The side activities

Marvel’s Spider-Man is home to a unique variety of side activities that the player can complete. The further the story progresses, the more optional events become available. If you ignore it, the post-game will see the entire map covered in quest markers, so finishers may want to complete these side quests as they become available.

Each mission has a unique premise and most require different feats to be completed. Some will order Peter to swing between skyscrapers chasing a pigeon, while others will see him trying to stop his lesser-present enemies from destroying New York. Like most open world games, there are plenty of collectibles to be found as well. These tasks can all be completed with relative ease, but completing each side mission completely requires: 17 hours extra of gameplay on top of the long main story.

The City That Never Sleeps DLC

The city that never sleeps DLC takes place several months after the main events of the base game and cannot be completed until the credits have been rolled. The Maggia family tries to take advantage of Wilson Fisk’s absence by replacing him, but Spider-Man refuses to deal any more damage to his city.

Any entry in The city that never sleeps takes about 2 hours to completebut the side activities require an additional 3 in total. Defeating Hammerhead and all new DLC villains will increase the DLC’s total playing time 9 hour.

Making the game platinum

Aside from the side activities and collectibles, there are a few less obvious tasks that need to be completed to really beat the game. The trophy list will document these required achievements, but they can be quite challenging without a suitable guide. There are a total of 5 trophies that fall into this category.

With great power… To get this trophy, Peter must visit his uncle’s grave in the top left corner of the map. Once there, the grave can be used, allowing him to finally pay his respects. This task can be completed in seconds, depending on where Peter is on the map.
Hero for higher The player will likely come across this trophy by accident while exploring New York, as Peter has to climb the tallest building in the city. The Avengers Tower is located on the Upper East Side of the map, just east of Central Park. Once the structure has been climbed, a notification will appear informing the player of his achievement.
Sticky and tricky Like the “Hero for Higher” trophy, the player is unlikely to complete it Marvel’s Spider-Man without unlocking “Sticky and Tricky”. It requires Peter to perform four separate tricks in the air before reaching the ground. It can be easily unlocked by jumping off a range of different buildings, but a jump from the Avengers Tower will reach it with finesse.
A bit of a fixer-upper While acting as Otto’s lab assistant, Peter has the ability to complete two separate optional side missions: Synthetic Tissue Substances and Neural Interface. It takes about 1 hour to complete all of Otto’s requests, but the ‘Accessibility’ section of the Options menu allows the player to skip all puzzles altogether if he wants to get the trophy quickly.
Hug it out When Peter gets the “Hug it Out” trophy, he must bind ten pairs of enemies together using a travel mine. Trip Mines can be upgraded during Act 2 to grant this ability, but not every player will choose to do so immediately. While it can be a difficult trophy to obtain if there are few enemies present, the sheer number of enemy enemies in Enemy Bases will make it laughably easy.

Once these more subtle trophies are unlocked, the player will receive the “Be Greater” Platinum Trophy to praise them for their efforts, but only when the rest of the game’s objectives are completed. Marvel’s Spider-Man will be more than 45 hours to complete for a completist and about 23 for a casual player.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is available on PS4 and PS5, with a PC version coming August 12.
