Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor was only recently released, but fans are already raving about the next potential character coming in Marvel’s Avengers. Rumors of a leaked She-Hulk have been around for quite some time, and while she’s reportedly still set to appear as a playable character at some point, it looks like another character will be appearing before her. If legit, several reliable leaks since then have pointed to the possibility of the Winter Soldier being added to Marvel’s Avengers.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Many fans’ fame with James Buchanan Barnes comes straight from the MCU, where he has undoubtedly gained popularity as a character. If Bucky is added, Marvel’s Avengers will once again have no shortage of cosmetic skin inspirations to draw from for the character in between his major role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and his last appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But how the Winter Soldier would play is an entirely different question, and he has certain accessories and firearms in his arsenal that Marvel’s Avengers might consider.

Winter Soldier can play the same way as Black Widow from Marvel’s Avengers

Because so much of Marvel’s AvengersPlayable characters are customizable as Echo characters, it makes sense that Bucky could be introduced as an Echo of Black Widow. Natasha Romanoff’s stealth and expertise as an assassin spy is no different from Bucky’s own elusive espionage strategies, and her use of dual pistols already sets a template for Bucky to use his own firearms.

Bucky can be seen wielding a myriad of firearms in the comic book source material and in the MCU, all of which can potentially be swapped out for different attacks in Marvel’s Avengers‘ game. Bucky could switch between a pistol, an assault rifle, a grenade launcher, or a sniper rifle. Black Widow’s traverse still allows her to travel as fast and far as Marvel’s Avengers‘ superhuman characters, but she also has a grab that allows her to move in the air as well.

One of her preferred modes of transportation that fans have longed for Marvel’s Avengers released was a motorcycle. This could have been implemented as a mechanic where the bike would appear next to her so she could immediately mount and ride until she chooses to jump off it, similar to how players in many open world games can suddenly summon a steed or other horse to their side. A motorcycle was never added for Black Widow, and it’s unlikely that one would be added for the Winter Soldier, but it would still provide a unique traverse. Otherwise, Bucky can just run and jump like other characters, or Bucky can even double jump like Captain America.

Winter Soldiers’ skills should revolve around tactical accessories

There are important differences between Bucky from the comics and Bucky from the MCU, but because Marvel’s Avengers has its own original canon, it will most likely appeal more to the MCU in regards to its lineage, or perhaps be a mix of the two with a possible nod to the Infinity Formula. Regardless, in terms of the Winter Soldier’s skills in combat, his cybernetic arm should not be overlooked.

As one of its most distinguishing features, Bucky’s chrome arm can probably deal massive damage to excited haymakers. This would make covering the distance fun, while his primary source of damage could be firearms, and technological gadgets could also be used through the use of the cybernetic arm.

Bucky’s cybernetic arm was previously equipped with an EMP discharger and a holographic projector; for example, the EMP can be used to temporarily stun hordes of nearby AIM bots, while the holographic projector can create simulated decoys similar to Kate Bishop’s. Furthermore, knives could be implemented by means of a single blade for close quarters combat, as well as throwing knives for fast projectiles.

All these dynamic ways to attack would be creative options for three of the player’s skills. The gameplay of Winter Soldier in Marvel’s Avengers could be familiar to players yet unique when considering his marksmanship ability and enhanced prosthetic arm.

Marvel’s Avengers is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
