The Star Wars franchise is currently going full steam ahead with its TV era. Several original series set in a galaxy far, far away have already appeared on Disney+, with many more to come in the near future. This all started with season one of The Mandalorian in 2019, but has since expanded into a second season of that show, Boba Fett’s Book, Obi-Wan Kenobiand next month andor. Many animated series also make it onto that list, including: The Bad Party and Star Wars: Visions.

All of these series have been received positively to varying degrees by fans, audiences and critics. However, The Mandalorian seems to have received the best reception, prompting less divisive reactions from Star Wars fans (which is certainly an achievement considering the current state of the fandom). Season two was unexpected as it featured a wide variety of familiar faces, ultimately proving to be far more relevant and important to canon than fans initially realized, especially because of Luke Skywalker’s appearance. The Jedi then appeared in Boba Fett’s book and it doesn’t look like he’s going to leave anytime soon. At this point in the canon, Luke is gearing up to start his Jedi Temple, and fans know that Ben Solo was one of his first students. Because of this, and Luke’s continued return, The Mandalorian Season 3 could not only feature the official beginning of Skywalker’s academy, but also dive into what was arguably the character’s most pivotal moment in the sequel trilogy: when he briefly debated the murder of his cousin, Ben Solo.

In Boba Fett’s bookGrogu appeared to be Luke’s first apprentice, training the padawan while the wider Jedi Temple was still being built. The buildings, which were later shown in The Last Jedi, were still assembled by droids while Luke worked with Grogu. As fans will remember, Grogu was given a choice in that episode to stay with Luke or go back with Din Djarin. He chose the latter, but most fans are still convinced that he will eventually become a Jedi as he gets older.

Due to Grogu’s absence, Luke would have to look for new padawans to train, so Ben Solo would be a good fit here. The two shared a monumental clash at the end of The Last Jedi which ultimately resulted in Luke’s death, and Kylo’s anger never abates even after that movie’s end. The two clearly have so much history together. Ben Solo played an integral part not only in the demise of Luke Skywalker, but also in the transition to an Empire-esque regime in the galaxy. It is only natural that the Star Wars franchise investigates this at some point, and The Mandalorian Season 3 seems to fit this story best.

The Mandalorian currently gearing up to eventually do a crossover event, with heroes like Boba Fett, Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker all joining Din Djarin and Grogu. The reason for the joining of forces has yet to be revealed, but some speculate it could be a canon adaptation of Heir to the Empire, the famous novel Legends. Some cite Thrawn’s upcoming live-action debut as possible proof of this. Either way, it looks like the threat the heroes face will be monumental and a game-changer for canon, and given that season two clearly hinted at Snoke from the sequels, this crossover could be reprised in Ben Solo. can walk.

Snoke twisted Ben’s mind, according to Luke, for a long time prior to the destruction of his temple. The character is enough of a blank slate for The Mandalorian to explore, as not much is known about him beyond his ties to Palpatine. Ben Solo’s past was briefly explored in The Rise of Kylo Ren, a comic book series that explained the events after the burning of the temple. His character’s ins and outs prior to the sequels have yet to be shown, though, and Season 3 could be the perfect platform for this.

The climax of Luke and Ben’s relationship could come in that crossover, but season 3 of The Mandalorian can begin to explore that story. Jon Favreau stated during the making of Season 2 that his series would serve as a project that Star Wars fans could agree to bring together elements from the prequel trilogy, the original trilogy, and the sequel trilogy to tell an original and exciting story. There have been a lot of originals and prequels elements so far, but the sequels haven’t had as much representation. The possibility of Snoke’s arrival could indicate that sequel references are about to be stepped up, but Luke Skywalker’s continued presence could serve as a link not only to the first three films, but also to the sequel trilogy.
