The atmosphere of a horror game directly determines how effective it will be at immersing and scaring those who play it. Several horror games manage to revive the most niche environments such as haunted houses, asylums, hospitals, forests, cities, etc. That said, the same variety of settings can get a little old for players inclined to try some horror games.

While these locations are often used based on their fear factor (because let’s face it, haunted houses and dark, empty forests are horrifying), it’s even more disturbing to be dropped into a horror game where the setting is completely different from the usual creepy mansion. or bloody hospital. These games had unique settings and produced perfectly crafted scares.
