The atmosphere of a horror game directly determines how effective it will be at immersing and scaring those who play it. 9 Little nightmares

Little nightmares is hauntingly known for its grotesque, bloated characters, the Twin Chefs. That said, the segment exploring the kitchen is only part of the game, and the setting is a far cry from that of a simple kitchen.
The game follows Six, a nine-year-old hungry girl dressed in a yellow raincoat, as she passes through the Maw and tries to escape. The Maw is a large, iron submarine (probably some kind of submarine) that is filled to the brim with monstrous characters. Little nightmares is a platformer that is primarily a stealth and puzzle game, which builds its atmosphere through brilliant sound design and unique graphics.
8 Traitor

Traitor is unique in many ways, including the monotonous color scheme and setting. Set in colonial Virginia in the 17th century, the game gives those who wanted a horror experience back in the day exactly what they bargained for.
The game mainly focuses on stealth elements as the protagonist mainly sneaks behind enemies and timing his movements with gusts of wind. There is a variety of colonial weapons that can be used to defeat enemies such as tomahawks, muskets, pistols, crossbows and more.
7 Amnesia: Rebirth

Amnesia: Rebirth is the long-awaited sequel to Amnesia: the dark descent, which came out in 2010. While Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Memory loss: a machine for pigs take place in mansions and factories, Amnesia: Rebirth let players wander through desert tunnels and catacombs.
Like the previous two games, Amnesia: Rebirth is a psychological horror game for the first person. Players will see through the eyes of Anastasie “Tasi” Trianon as she searches for her companions in the dark, lurking tunnels.

The game takes place in a world where young girls have built a hierarchy called the Red Crayon Aristocrats. This is already an interesting world environment, but within that world there are a number of interesting levels for the player to interact with, one of the most notable of which is an airplane.
5 Bendy and the Ink Machine

although Bendy and the Ink Machine has become quite a mainstream horror game over the years, it’s impossible to ignore the creativity in the setting of the game as a whole. The game takes place in the fictional vintage animation studio Joey Drew Studios.
The vintage animation studio setting gives those unnerved by the cartoonish, creepy style of old animation an inescapable sense of dread. The player spends most of the game’s chapters navigating and trying to escape Joey Drew Studios, encountering monstrous, grotesque characters along the way and unraveling the story of the now-abandoned animation studio.
4 corpse party

School is already a terrible place for most kids and teens, but corpse party increases the normal amount of anxiety and fear you would feel in middle, high, and elementary school by a factor of ten. corpse party follows eight students and their teacher as they perfect a fake friendship ritual that takes them to the terrifying Heavenly Host Elementary.
There, the students and their teacher must solve the gruesome murder mystery of Heavenly Host. In doing so, they try to find a way to bring them all back to the real world or die trying.
3 Iron Lung

Iron Lung is cited by some players as one of the scariest games to be released in 2022. For those with claustrophobia or phobias regarding the unknown monstrous creatures that swim under the ocean, Iron Lung will be a horrific experience.
Trapped alone in a one-man submarine called the Iron Lung, the protagonist navigates an ocean of blood, taking photos of certain key locations and trying to avoid detection of the voracious, fish-like beasts lurking below.
2 A late night

What could be more terrifying than an office job in corporate America? The answer is not to be alone when the office appeared to be empty. A late night capitalizes on this fear by placing the player in a familiar environment, one of an office building.
The player takes on the role of a protagonist who is working late at night after other employees have gone home, only to realize that something or someone is in his office and leaves little creepy signs of life as a warning for their presence.
1 American McGee’s Alice

Nothing is more terrifying than the abilities and thoughts of the human mind, especially one that has been through trauma. American McGee’s Alice puts players in a sinister, violent and gloomy version of the Wonderland Alice explored in the famous stories Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the mirror.
The game was criticized for its linear storyline, but praised for its art style and atmospheric qualities. Players looking for an interesting, dark psychological take on the original story and characters of Alice in Wonderland should definitely check it out American McGee’s Alice.
