The concept is simple: giant Kaiju monsters fighting each other in the center of a city. Take that idea and give it a 4 player party game twist, and that’s the gist of it GigaBashthe debut release from Malaysian indie studio Passion Republic Games.
Whether it’s couch co-op, online matchmaking, or a surprisingly endearing story mode, there’s something for everyone in this deceptively complex brawl. Players choose one of 10 playable Kaiju – each with their own unique moves and special abilities – and get to work taking out enemy players or taking out the city around them. However, not all kaiju are created equal. Here are all the monsters in GigaBash, ranked from worst to best.
10 Pipijuras
The whole point of a parlor game is to embrace a “pick-up-and-play” style of control. Everyone, no matter how familiar they are with the game, should be able to jump in and have fun. For the largest part, GigaBash is doing a great job on this. The only place where that isn’t the case is at Pipijuras.
Pipijuras is a long-range Kaiju. Slow and struggling to survive when an enemy gets close, he must use his ranged skills to keep other monsters at bay. This is doable for an experienced player. For someone who just jumps into the game for a quick session, Pipijuras is too technical to master right away.
9 skorak
This giant snail is still the smallest of the kaiju available and as such must win with brains over brawn. With a range of range and close range abilities, Skorak is a versatile and flexible monster choice.
What ranks them so low is that Skorak doesn’t deal the most damage, nor does it have the best defense or health pool. As such, it is best suited to players who have a good grasp of the snail’s abilities and their various uses. For a new player, Skorak will be a challenging monster to use outside the gate.
8 Rohanna
Another highly technical monster, albeit much more user-friendly, Rohanna is a summoner who deals just as much damage with her own attacks as sitting back and letting their minions do the work.
Her movement is a bit odd, as Rohanna is almost dancing around the battlefield, and it can take some getting used to. However, her ability to move in an instant to get out of trouble is extremely beginner-friendly, but can be used devastatingly by experienced players.
7 Gigaman
Essentially just a giant Power Ranger, Gigaman is the closest thing to a playable human in GigaBash. While it may have the least exciting design, it makes up for it with blazing fast speed and laser beams.
Playing well with Gigaman is all about stringing together combos. A single shot from this “Kaiju” by itself won’t do much, but when players start stringing together its attacks, Gigaman can launch enemies into the air, blast them with a laser, then jump up to meet them, then take them down to strike back on Earth. He’s incredibly satisfying to master, but agile enough to be effective for a new player learning the ropes.
6 Wooley
One of the GigaBash Kaiju that is sure to become an iconic design, Wooley is easily the most adorable monster in the game. He is essentially a giant version of Super Smash Bros. Kirby, able to inhale his opponents, roll across the battlefield or hurl projectiles from a distance.
Wooley’s biggest weakness is that he’s small, which means he’s easy to knock. That’s easily offset by the speed at which he can jump (or roll) in and out of combat. He’s one of the most mobile characters in the game, and his ultimate ability – summoning an avalanche – is devastating.
5 gorogong
There is not much nuance in Gorogong, he plays exactly as he looks. His two large, glowing fists are his main weapons, and he will happily fly around the map and smash his enemies with them. He’s fast, he hits hard and he’s very combo friendly.
Gorogong’s greatest asset is that many of his attacks not only damage their target, but also AoE damage. Depending on how many enemy Kaiju are around, Gorogong’s bigger attacks will damage them all. His ultimate ability takes that concept and extends its range, bouncing around any monster that happens to be even remotely close.
4 Kongkrete
Kongkrete, the most inspired monster design in the entire game, is an office building come to life. All of his attacks and abilities match what players would expect from a building. It bounces around and lands on top of enemies, it falls headfirst on enemies, and when it transforms into an S-Class monster, it becomes a huge skyscraper that crushes its enemies.
The added nuance to Kongkrete’s design is that it can sneak into a group of real office buildings and cause other players to lose sight of it. It’s also just fake. One of the best things to do in GigaBash is when someone playing Kongkrete runs amok.
3 Thunderclap
If Gigaman is the equivalent of a Power Ranger, then Thundastross is the equivalent of Voltron. A massive robot with an equally massive sword, this towering mech is one of the biggest, toughest monsters in the entire game.
What it lacks in foot speed it makes up for with an almost unbelievable range. Thundastross’ sword swing can extend much further than players will expect. Transform it into an S-Class and that range gets even more ridiculous. He also does a ton of damage, meaning most enemies are better off just staying away. Easier said than done.
2 Zyva
The last unlockable character in GigaBash, Zyva is also the biggest monster in the game. Zyva is a massive crystalline beast and has an ability suitable for anything. It has projectiles, it has air projectiles, it has insane range on its base attacks and it has gravity forces to boot.
While it may be slow, Zyva can make up for that in so many ways that it’s hardly a negative. It may take you a while to get used to the sheer amount of abilities this creature has at its disposal, but once Zyva gets going, there aren’t many Kaiju who can stop it.
1 rawa
The ultimate fantasy in any Kaiju game for most players is to play as Godzilla. He’s the quintessential Kaiju, and he’s iconic for a reason. In GigaBashPlayers can get closest to that fantasy by playing as Rawa, known in the game world as the ‘Extinction Dragon’.
Rawa is most likely a bit overpowered, even for a game that’s all about being overpowered. He has a payload that is absolutely devastating and can tear through a series of buildings without a second thought. Failing that, he has his Extinction Beam, a cone of blue flame that deals an absurd amount of damage to anything in its path. This is all without mentioning his ultimate ability, Decimate: Supernova, which looks exactly as it sounds: a giant orb of damage expanding outward from Rawa’s position. He is the ultimate Kaiju and easily the most powerful monster in the game.
GigaBash was released on August 4, 2022 and is available on PS4, Ps5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
