Week 2 of the Alabama High School football season is off to a great start.

On Thursday, a pair of No. 2 ranked teams and reigning state champions (Vigor in 5A and Clarke County in 2A) were both upset victims. What’s going to happen tonight? Check back regularly to see and review all the final scores.

Tonight’s big games are Decatur in Austin, Albertville in Boaz, Hueytown in Clay-Chalkville in a rematch of last year’s Class 6A title game and St. Paul’s in McGill-Toolen.

18:52, rain, rain goes away: Field conditions could be difficult tonight, especially in the southern part of the state. Here’s a look at what lies ahead for the Spanish Fort and Blount in Eight Mile. In fact, several Gulf Coast games changed locations due to 32 consecutive days of rain. Gulf Shores travels to Citronelle, Alma Bryant to Holtville and Cottage Hill to Satsuma. Those games were originally scheduled as home games for Citronelle, Alma Bryant and Cottage Hill.

6:50 pm, welcome to the Big Time: Mary G. Montgomery heads out this week to take on Charles Henderson at Troy’s Veterans Stadium. It’s one of 187 games on tap tonight.

18:48, Back home: Southern Miss QB Ethan Crawford and Class 6A No. 4 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa hosts Armwood, Fla., tonight.

18:44, One to watch: Class 2A 1 Fyffe opens the 2022 season with Geraldine. This is the same Geraldine team that defeated the Red Devils a year ago to end their country’s best winning streak.

18:41, Profit needed: Blount and Spanish Fort open 6A, play region 1. Both are looking for a win after dropping small losses last week. Blount lost a 7-0 decision to match Vigor, while Spanish Fort lost 34-28 to Fairhope on a walk-off pick 6 from Nolan Phillips.

11:03 a.m., Coming Home: Former Alabama QB and Fayette County High QB and coach Lance Tucker returns home tonight to take on Hoover. Find out in this preview why Tucker, now a coach at Bartlett, Tennessee, has planned a return trip to his home state.
