It’s been a great week for video game news, most of it positive. Gamescom 2022 took place earlier this week, with several upcoming games receiving release dates, new trailers and other information. Furthermore, new games were also revealed for the first time at the big event. While it was generally a great week for video game news, some stories were just bigger than others.
There have been so many important announcements and fans can read about some of the biggest here on Sportskeeda. Whether it’s the reveal of Phantom Hellcat, the launch of Pac-Man World Re-Pac, or the showcasing of Forspoken’s features, it’s certainly been an exciting week for video game fans. Here are the biggest stories from last week.
1) Final Fantasy XIV’s latest update, 6.2 “Buried Memory” has been launched
Final Fantasy XIV, one of the most popular MMOs in the world, has released the last major update to the Endwalker expansion. It has brought with it the latest Main Story Quest storyline “Buried Memory” as well as a whole host of other features. Sephirot, the trial from Heavensward, now has an “Unreal” difficulty setting with brand new rewards to unlock.
Furthermore, there’s a new dungeon to tackle, balance updates for different classes, a new PVP series that’s also packed with rewards, and last but certainly not least, Island Sanctuary. One of the biggest parts of the video game update is the casual farming mode, where players get their own island to farm and live in.
Players can farm, create new structures, collect animals, craft items to sell, and that’s just the beginning. It even includes minions, mounts, and dyes to unlock for players to take advantage of. It’s a huge undertaking, but certainly an enjoyable one.
2) Sonic Frontiers finally gets a release date
While Sonic Frontiers continues to create controversy with its fan base, at least they know when the latest video game featuring everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog is coming. In the new title, Sonic the Hedgehog is dropped into an unknown area, where he has been warned that he poses a threat and must leave.
Fans were treated to fantastic high-octane action in the story trailer. Many of the game’s phases seemed to shift between 2D and 3D, where Sonic bounced, ran and jumped over all sorts of obstacles. Fortunately, fans don’t have to wait long. Sonic Frontiers is expected to be released on November 8, 2022, as revealed at Gamescom 2022.
3) The Dark Souls III servers are back online
About a month before Elden Ring launched, Dark Souls III’s servers were hit by a major security breach and were taken down. Since then, the video game’s servers have been inactive, but on August 25, 2022, FromSoftware gave fans some news to cheer about.
Dark Souls III online features are back and they are now working on online features for PC versions of Dark Souls and Dark Souls II. While those are still not available, they are at least being looked into. The inability to play online certainly hurt the game’s number of concurrent players, but now that this has been fixed, the games could become popular again.
4) Hogwarts Legacy Courts Controversy Over Pre-Order Bonuses
Hogwarts Legacy continues to be a hot topic of discussion in the world of video game news. This time it’s all about the pre-order bonuses, editions and exclusive content for the upcoming game.
Fans were outraged by some of the recent revelations, and while the social media team for Hogwarts Legacy stated they had heard their concerns and apologized for the frustration, their response didn’t really resolve the issue. A major concern has been that the PlayStation versions will get exclusive items in their different editions, as well as a little more.
All players of Hogwarts Legacy on PlayStation will receive an exclusive quest not linked to a pre-order, which did not sit well with fans. More information will be coming soon, though, so hopefully it’s something to allay the fans’ concerns.
5) PlayStation 5 prices have increased in many areas
The famed PlayStation 5 console is already incredibly difficult to get anywhere in the world, but Sony has made it even more difficult for areas outside of the United States. Predictably, this didn’t go down well with fans who already wanted the video game console, as it’s now going to cost even more.
Sony has cited the current global economic crisis as a key reason for the decision. The recommended retail price of the PlayStation 5 has increased in select markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Canada.
Fans are clearly upset, although Sony has informed the various markets about what their new PlayStation 5 prices will be. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan acknowledged that they need to increase their console offerings, but no official announcement has been made yet.
This is just a sampling of the video game news reported on Sportskeeda. Stay up to date with the latest and greatest news from the world of gaming, esports and more.
