FIFA 23 just had a ton of news about Ultimate Team, during a livestreamed reveal on EA’s YouTube channel.

In the reveal, we got a glimpse of the new shared market on Ultimate Team, stadium upgrades, chemistry changes, positions and much more. Here are some of the highlights:

Cross-markets

The introduction of cross-play on FIFA 23 means we will now see the Ultimate Team market shared across the platforms below:

  • Playstation 4
  • Playstation 5
  • Xbox One
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • stadiums

The only exceptions are Switch and PC. These markets will continue to operate in the same way as in previous years.

Crossplay will not only change the market, but also who you play against. Players will be playing against players of the same console generation in the future, so PS5 players will be playing against Xbox Series players.

Single Player Moments

A new game mode that relies on the creation of moments is introduced. Here you can recreate new moments from the previous matches.

There will also be challenges such as scoring with your goalkeeper and more exciting challenges that you would not normally see in football or FIFA.

The reward for completing the challenges is stars, a new currency coming to the game. You can collect these and spend them on whatever you want.

The challenges will decrease in seasons and come gradually depending on the challenge. All of these new challenges are single-player and larger than playing an entire game. This way you can squeeze in a small session, even if you don’t have time for a full match.

New chemistry links

Positive chemistry links are gone in FIFA 23’s Ultimate Team. Team spirit has now been completely overhauled, going forward it will rely more on your player playing where he’s supposed to play, rather than who he’s directly linked to on the pitch .

There will be chemistry scores between 1-3 and this will be affected by other players in the squad. So if you have two players from the same team or country, even if they are not connected, they will add to the chemistry.

Another big difference is that players have secondary positions for those who do play in multiple positions. The example given is Joao Cancelo of Manchester City, who can play either left or right back.

All you have to do is apply a position modifier and you can switch the player to his secondary position.

A player will have at least one position change, but can have up to three. In FIFA 23, there is no downside to having a player out of position; their stats are no longer grained like in previous iterations of the game.

Stadium Upgrades

Stadium upgrades are also being revised, with new animated tifos, stadiums and medals to decorate the ground with.

We assume these are earned by completing challenges and milestones, just like in FIFA 22.

Icons and heroes

We should also see new icons coming to the game, as well as new heroes. Although nothing was said about it during the unveiling.

It’s still unknown what new Icons will be coming, all the information we have at the moment is just rumors and rumors, but they point in the direction of some pretty special players. The rumored players are:

  • Gabriel Batistuta (Argentina) – FUT Icon
  • Rudi Voller (Germany) – FUT Icon
  • Gerd Muller (Germany) – FUT Icon
  • Xabi Alonso (Spain) – FUT icon
  • Jairzinho (Brazil) – FUT Icon

There is already more information about the Heroes. We know they will tie in with a World Cup promo, so that will be December, and we also know to expect Yaya Toure, Claudio Marchisio, Park Ji-Sung and Carvalho. We’ve seen these players in several promos that EA has released over the past few months.

It has been suggested that some icons will be downgraded to Heroes in FIFA 23.

If we are to believe EA’s accidental announcement, the Hero cards will likely tie in with a Marvel crossover event in FIFA 23 during the World Cup.

FIFA 23 has confirmed that the World Cup is coming to Ultimate Team, but we’ll have to wait for another announcement before seeing more. They were very hesitant in the announcement – who knows what to expect.
