The FIFA 23 release date is fast approaching and football fans are eager to find out what EA has in store for them this year. Here’s everything you need to know about FIFA 23.
FIFA 23 will be EA Sports’ last football game with the FIFA branding as they will introduce EA Sports FC to the world next year.
That’s why expectations for FIFA 23 are high and after EA showed off the new features and additions that await players in Career Mode, Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs, there is clearly a look to look forward to.
We’ve listed every new feature coming to FIFA 23, as well as the official release date, to best prepare you for a comprehensive final chapter.
Will FIFA 23 have crossplay?
FIFA 23 will have a crossplay feature for select modes at launch. Crossplay in FIFA 23 will be limited to 1vs1 modes when the game comes out. This will mainly affect Ultimate Team’s gameplay as players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC will face each other. Meanwhile, PS4 and Xbox One users will also be pitted against each other
This also means that a huge number of players will share one FUT market in FIFA. To learn more about changes in the market, read our article explaining how the Ultimate Team Market will work in FIFA 23.
Unfortunately, EA confirmed that there would be no crossplay feature for the Pro Clubs mode. This infuriated players, and after a lot of reaction from the FIFA community, EA hinted that the feature could make its way to Pro Clubs after launch.
New Features of FIFA 23 Ultimate Team
FIFA 23 Ultimate Team fans are in for some big changes. For starters, position modifiers as we know them will be removed from the game.
Instead, players will have secondary positions that reflect their actual position changes. Kyler Walker, for example, could work on full chemistry at RB or CB.
Another big change in Ultimate Team mode is FIFA 23’s brand new chemistry system. Team spirit lines in your team are a thing of the past in FIFA 23. You’ll know you have more freedom to build your team with a less restrictive team spirit system.
This system takes into account countries, leagues and clubs across the field to give players a team spirit score between 0-3. Proximity is no longer a factor as Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold produce chemistry from RB to LB.

FIFA 23 World Cup Modes
The World Cup mode added to FIFA 18 has been a huge hit with players, and the community has urged EA to revisit the feature for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
While we don’t currently know how many game modes will feature World Cup content, EA has confirmed that there will be some involvement through the Ultimate Team mode.
Obviously, both the men’s and women’s versions of the World Cup will be celebrated in FIFA 23, but we’ll have to wait and see what they have in store for players.
With the men’s tournament this time taking place in the winter of 2022 and the women’s edition in the summer of 2023, EA would have plenty of time to give both football festivals the proper treatment.
FIFA 23 new and removed clubs
Due to licensing agreements, it is not uncommon for clubs and leagues to join and leave the FIFA franchise with each new release. Lately it has been difficult to get some Serie A licenses as well-known clubs Juventus, Lazio and Atalanta have been missing from the game.
EA has confirmed that Juventus will return to FIFA in full capacity this year, with Claudio Marchisio in charge as a FUT Hero item available to Ultimate Team players.
While one partnership seems to have been rekindled, another will end in FIFA 23 as reports claim the J-League will be removed from the game. If the reports are true, it would mark the end of a 6-year partnership between the Japanese League and EA Sports.
With a ton of different licenses to consider, it can be difficult to keep track of which teams, leagues, and stadiums will be involved in FIFA 23, but we’ve created a guide to help you out.
Gameplay changes in FIFA 23
In addition to the changes to the Pro Clubs offerings and Career Mode in FIFA 23, EA was also able to announce several gameplay changes. These changes are intended to freshen up the game on the field.
For starters, set pieces have been overhauled in FIFA 23, with penalties given a simplified mechanic. Fixed pieces also include free kicks and corners, which you’ll need to master again this year.
One of the most entertaining ways to increase your FIFA skill is through skill moves, and in FIFA 23 there will be more to master than ever before. You can check out our guide to discover all the gameplay changes introduced in FIFA 23.
