Hogwarts Legacy Storyline
What’s Hogwarts Legacy about?

According to the official Hogwarts Legacy website, here is the synopsis for the game:
Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Experience Hogwarts for the first time in the 19th century. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. Now you can take over the action and be at the center of your own wizarding world adventure. Your legacy is what you make of it.

However, the Wikipedia synopsis talks more about some aspects of the gameplay and the characters you encounter:
Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s and follows a college student entering Hogwarts in their fifth year. The player character, who holds the key to an “ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart”, is able to manipulate a mysterious ancient magic, and will have to help discover why this forgotten magic has suddenly resurfaced and those who try to exploit it at the same time.
The player can interact with characters previously featured in the Wizarding World franchise, including Almost Headless Nick, The Fat Lady, and Peeves. The player character will also be introduced to new characters such as Professor Eleazar Fig, who acts as a mentor figure to the main character. Antagonists in the game include Ranrok, the leader of the Goblin Rebellion, and Victor Rookwood, the leader of a group of Dark Wizards.

Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay
What kind of game is it? Hogwarts Legacy?

Hogwarts Legacy is a single action role-playing video game, also known as an “RPG”. The game is open world and told in a third person perspective, and players can perform various spells, incantations and combat moves against their enemies.
You can also take several classes at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and go outside to explore well-known locations such as the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade Village, Diagon Alley and never-before-seen areas in the Wizarding World.

Before the game starts, you can choose your gender, appearance and house. And during your journey, you can upgrade spells, skills and more with your progress. You can also trade and craft, and care for and use Fantastic Beasts.
Hogwarts Legacy also has a “morality system”, meaning you can choose whether you want to become a decent witch or wizard, or go on a journey where you become a dark one, not unlike Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort or Gellert Grindelwald.

You can also befriend non-player characters, each with their own backgrounds and histories, some of which are mentioned in the 15-minute gameplay overview. And as your journey progresses, so will your relationships with your friends.
Online multiplayer has yet to be confirmed, although it is possible Hogwarts Legacy will not include this feature.
