One of the most acclaimed games of all time, Elden Ring is full of stories and battles, the perfect material for the start of a new series.
With approximately 13.4 million copies sold at the end of March 2022, Elden Ring is the best-selling game ever released by FromSoftware, and a sequel is an opportunity that can hardly be missed. FromSoftware has brought iconic games to the world, such as the dark souls series, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and more. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, known for his lore and fragmented storytelling in their games, collaborated with A song of ice and fire author George RR Martin on Elden Ring to develop a storyline that is more accessible to a general audience. This link has turned out to be a success, because Elden Ring is the best-selling game of the year.
Elden Ring, according to Miyazaki, was intended as an evolution of the souls spell. Like other FromSoftware projects, players can customize characters, travel across many countries and fight against many different types of enemies. FromSoftware games are known to have a pronounced difficulty. However, Elden Ring is unique in that it is expanded on core elements of the souls spell. While the mechanics are similar, some moves, such as parry, have been modified. The open world of Elden Ring encourages players to wander and choose their own path in a much less linear way than in the souls spell. Many things in Elden Ring better and bigger: more lands to explore, many enemies to fight and more items to collect.
Numbers alone are enough encouragement for a Elden Ring continuation. However, coupled with the critical reception and fanfare the game has received, a sequel feels inevitable. Before its release, the game won multiple Most Anticipated Game awards. Elden Ring has since been universally acclaimed and has achieved high scores in numerous publications. Twitch has also reported a large number of streams for the game. It is important to note that Elden Ring is not explicitly a souls don’t play either. Miyazaki has stated that: Elden Ring is an evolution of the souls spell. With this information and perspective that other open world games were ruined by Elden Ringdoes it make sense that FromSoftware’s newest would be expanded with more games. Even in the rich history of success within FromSoftware, the credit for Elden Ring is unprecedented.
DLC could be the first step towards an Elden Ring sequel
Awaiting DLC, Elden RingThe future can now go in many directions. FromSoftware DLC famously tends to feature new off-map areas, new items, and new bosses that are notoriously tougher than the main one. Elden Ring has the ability to do all of these things, but in new ways. FromSoftware can easily put DLC content in the folds of the Elden Ring map, while also pointing to several areas that could host a potential sequel. Elden Ring lore could fill a book, it’s so rich, and DLC could barely begin to tie the threads together. A continuation on Elden Ring is the best way to tell the story.
Elden Ring could very well be the first in a new series that FromSoftware is introducing to the world. Knowing that creators took inspiration from the souls world, which contained as many as three games, seems to point in the direction of more Elden Ring content. It has already been confirmed that FromSoftware developers are working on multiple new projects. It is possible that another Elden Ring delivery would already be in the works. Fans are also eagerly awaiting the first major Elden Ring DLC release is reportedly in the works. With so much fan praise and critical reception, it seems inevitable that the next big step will be a sequel. Although it may not be called literally Elden Ring 2, there are unlimited possibilities for the future of Elden Ring.
