Some of the world’s most prominent video game platforms have evolved into the virtual concert space in the past 24 months.

The likes of Roblox, Epic Games-owned Fortnite and Minecraft have all seen superstar artists perform in the metaverse through their platforms.

Last month, the popular mobile game PUBG Mobile came in and hosted a virtual concert featuring K-Pop megastars, BLACKPINK.

The video marked the first time BLACKPINK has appeared in avatar form for a music video and the first time PUBG MOBILE has collaborated with artists on a music video featuring virtual images.

Created by Tencent Holdings-backed Korean video game company Krafton, PUBG, which stands for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, has been downloaded more than a billion times outside of China.



The in-game concert was promoted worldwide in physical venues, including New York’s Times Square, with Vincent Wang, head of PUBG MOBILE Publishing at Tencent Games, calling the collaboration with the K-pop group, “PUBG MOBILE’s biggest collaboration to date.” .”

Over two weekends in July, the “immersive audiovisual experience” was watched by 15.7 million viewers worldwide about the concert series.

In addition, the music video for the track ready for love, which was released as part of the collaboration, has now been viewed more than 146 million times since its launch.

The concert won Best Metaverse Performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last weekend, from a shortlist that included Ariana Grande in Fortnite, Charli XCX in Roblox and Justin Bieber in Wave.

BLACKPINK, signed to Universal’s Interscope Records through a global partnership with South Korea’s YG Entertainment, recently broke their own record for the third biggest music video debut in YouTube history with the release of their new song pink poison.

The video for pink poison was released on YouTube on Friday, August 19 at midnight ET and generates 90.4 million viewed within 24 hours.

BLACKPINKThe channel’s official YouTube channel has recently passed more than 77.5 million subscribers, making them the most subscribed artist on the platform.

pink poison is the lead single from BLACKPINK’s upcoming second album, Born pinkis scheduled for release on September 16. The track is currently at number 3 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart.
