More details on Scarlet & Violet, the second wave of Mario Kart and all the other biggest stories of the past week in video games.

Every week with a Pokemon Presents will feel like almost nothing else happened. Wednesday’s presentation was indeed packed with information to fill this article all on its own, but believe it or not, plenty of other big stories from the video game world came out this week. More Mario Kart tracks, an Impossible Halo Challenge, and all the other biggest game stories from the past seven days are below.

Pokemon Presents: Loads More Things About Scarlet & Violet

Of course we have to start with Pokemon. This week’s Presents kicked off with the reveal that Pokemon Go and Unite will be part of this year’s World Championships for the first time before continuing with all the exciting new revelations about Scarlet & Violet. Most notably, the region we will get to know in November is called Paldea. We also got an inside look at the game’s legendary Pokemon, which can be ridden through Paldea like motorcycles. A few new Pokemon also reared their heads. Fidough, which is literally a dog made of bread, and the Paldean variant of Wooper, the first posion ground type in the series in over 25 years.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pack Wave 2

It’s not often that a five-year-old game gets some pretty extensive DLC. Especially when people keep buying that game so much that it refuses to leave the top ten bestsellers. That’s why it was such a nice surprise when Nintendo revealed that it would be adding 48 tracks from Mario Kart’s past to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Not all at once, but this week the second wave finally came, headlined by Waluigi’s Pinball. A datamine of the files from the update also appears to have revealed 15 of the 32 remaining tracks that will be coming to the game in future waves.

Nerfs, improvements and delays for MultiVersus

Millions of people have played the MultiVersus open beta. I know that because I am currently in the eight millionth position in the world. No, I’m not that good. Anyway, the point of the beta is that Warner Bros. can figure out what works and what doesn’t in the game before a full launch. It looks like something is up, as the first season, which was due to start in a few days, has been delayed. No new date has been announced yet, but there is good news. MultiVersus will be present for the first time on Evo as you read this and after the event Wonder Woman will be enhanced while Finn and Bugs Bunny are disturbed.

The Impossible Halo 2 Challenge Wasn’t So Impossible After All

A few weeks ago, a streamer offered a $20,000 bounty in exchange for completing what they considered an impossible challenge: completing Halo 2 with all but one of the skulls enabled and not even allowed to die once. Turns out that challenge wasn’t that impossible after all. It took fellow streamer JerValiN just over six hours to accomplish the feat, and they had a lot of people watching them do it. At one point, there were over 45,000, a number that meant that the 18-year-old Halo game was viewed by 38 times more people than anyone else playing Infinite at the time.

Inner sloth almost wrecked among us

Chances are, most of you reading this have played Among Us at least once, and many of you will have played it way more than that during the pandemic. It was one of the surprise hits of 2020, as most of us were locked up at home, but what many people don’t realize is that the game had already been available for two years. In fact, developers at the indie studio revealed this week that the plan in 2020 was to continue with the original game and work on a sequel. The sudden surge in popularity caused the studio to spin and instead build on the first game.

God Of War was available on Xbox for a very short time

It’s not every day you wake up, look at your phone and see images of Kratos swinging his ax on an Xbox. That day didn’t fall this week either, but for a moment it seemed to be. A very cheap looking God of War rip-off called War Gods Zeus of Child (catchy) appeared on the Xbox Store via something called the Xbox Creators Collection. It’s now been removed, but for a short period of time Xbox owners could play an awful version of the iconic PlayStation exclusive for just $3.99.
