A piece is one of the largest anime franchises in the world. It has an incredibly large fan base and their efforts have made it the best-selling manga of all time. More than 500 million copies have been sold worldwide and there is no doubt that the number will continue to increase before the series ends.
Besides having an anime adaptation, A piece has also released numerous movies, the last of which was released in 2019. During the celebration of the 1000th installment of the series, an announcement was made regarding the following A piece movie. The name of the movie is One Piece Film: Redand it will hit theaters in Japan on August 6, 2022. Multiple trailers have been released so far and these are enough to give fans an idea of what to expect from the film.
The plot
The film will focus on the Straw Hats and Uta, the daughter of Shanks. Shanks left Uta for unknown reasons, but in the trailer, Luffy reassured Uta that Shanks left only to protect her from danger. Another surprise from the trailers was that Luffy and Uta had known each other since childhood. They were playing with each other before Luffy got the scar under his eye. When they met in the trailer, Uta didn’t immediately recognize Luffy, which is to be expected considering they last saw each other a long time ago.
Throughout the trailer, Uta emphasized the fact that as long as she kept singing, there would be peace in the world. However, in the trailers, Uta often looked distraught as if she was carrying a huge burden on her shoulders. It is plausible to assume that she is dealing with some sort of issues related to her singing. Uta seems to have a devil fruit associated with music, much like Apoo’s Oto Oto no Mi. It will be interesting to see what kind of devil fruit it is and what powers it grants its user.
The large cast of characters
Like One piece: Stampede, Movie: Red also has a notable cast. The new movie features the Straw Hats including Jimbei, meaning this will be the first movie where Jimbei is officially part of the crew. Movie: Red also includes Uta, but arguably the film’s biggest highlight is Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates. Despite being introduced very early in the series, Shanks has remained one of the more enigmatic characters, whose strength and goals remain a mystery.
Shanks is one of the Yonko, which makes him a very notorious pirate. Oddly enough, Shanks was able to go to Mary Geoise without any problem, and the Five Elders even granted him an audience, meaning they had a lot of respect for Shanks. This raises many questions about Shanks’ motives, but the final saga will no doubt answer them all. Aside from the main story, Uta is still a big mystery surrounding Shanks, but don’t worry as the movie will answer this question and reveal other new things about Shanks.
Some members of the Big Mom Pirates will also appear in the film. So far, it has been confirmed that Charlotte Katakuri, Charlotte Brulee and Charlotte Oven will star. These characters didn’t appear in the Wano Country arc, so it’s a nice touch to have them in the movie. Fans will be especially excited to see Katakuri, who last appeared during the Whole Cake Island arc. It didn’t take long for Katakuri to become one of the most beloved characters in the A piece world.
The film will also star Trafalgar Law and Bepo, who have both become fan favorites since their alliance with the Straw Hats. Trafalgar Law also played a key role in Douglas Bullet’s defeat in the previous film, so he is expected to play a key role in Movie: Red also. Another character that makes an appearance in the film is Bartolomeo. He has been sidelined since the Dressrosa arc ended.
The Marines and the Numeral Police
Movie: Red also includes many characters serving in the Marines. The names confirmed so far are: Akainu, Kizaru, Fujitora, Momonga, Koby and Helmeppo. Aside from the big names, getting Koby and Helmeppo involved in the film is a nice touch. They haven’t been getting enough screen time lately, so letting them be a part of this project is a good decision.
The Marines aren’t the only ones the pirates have to watch out for. The film will also feature two members of the Cipher Pol, namely Blueno and Kalifa. In addition to the Cipher Pol and the Marines, the Five Elders have also been confirmed to appear in the film. Obviously, having all these characters is an indication that the movie will have a lot of action. There is a lot of excitement among the fans, and many just can’t wait to finally see what the film has to offer.
