August 17, 2022. indie Publisher Ratalaika Games, along with SoftColors, are pleased to announce the upcoming release of Aquadine, which was already described as “amazing” by the media last year when it was released on PC Steam. On August 26, 2022, the console release will be on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch ($19.99 / €19.99) for a truly exciting visual novel experience!
Aquadine is a beautiful kinetic visual novel in which most of the story created is quite simple and completely immersive. Players will initially learn about Aquadine’s characters and culture, giving everyone a chance to see which characters they might like to follow in a casual setting before the story gets more serious.
Set the scene
A character selection screen will then appear with four main characters: Anya, Diana, Cameron and Elisabeth. Clicking on any of these will take players to that route and can be read in any order. When all four are cleared, an epilogue titled Memories will unlock on the home screen. That’s the true end of the story.
Each of the main characters is memorable in their different personalities, their speech patterns and their own stories. There are many fun scenarios where the main cast interacts with each other on the common route and while players experience one route at a time, the other main characters can still be important to them. Everyone is connected, and reading all four of them unlocks the important epilogue.
The institution
Aquadine is a very special town where you can go on holiday and really embrace the beautiful scenery. It is rich in culture and mythology and is inhabited by many lovely characters. The most unique feature of this visual novel would have to be the town of Aquadine itself.
While this setting takes a lot of inspiration from Venice, the mythology is actually about an ancient meerfolk civilization. Players will see how this intertwines with the modern setting and its importance to the overall plot. The main character’s mother also has a very strange combination of symptoms that has never been seen before.
The game
As players delve deeper into the story, they will slowly discover the many secrets within. One of the most memorable early scenes is an encounter with a beautiful mermaid. But like Ciel, she also has her own secrets. Players will learn a little more about her before the heroine routes diverge into four different options. There are too many memorable scenarios to list. They discover the mermaid’s true identity, enjoy the bond between Diana and her extremely strict mother, watch Cameron brutally beat the living shit from her martial arts team, learn how Elisabeth copes with her trauma and feel Ciel’s despair when he does everything he can to save his mother.
And there is more…………
“With the exception of the epilogue, Aquadine is written in the third-person perspective, which allows for additional scenes from the heroines’ private lives, especially with family, and it wouldn’t feel natural if the main character is always present. Visual novels are traditionally told in the first person so that the readers can immerse themselves through the eyes of the main character and make choices, but we wanted to explore other options. This approach itself is challenging, as it can be risky to commit to something different than expected. The third person story with no choices allowed the flexibility to flesh out main characters much deeper than what can be told in a simulationn.” Brian Trieu, director of Aquadine
