Father’s Day is this Sunday, in case you needed that reminder, and some dads just happen to be gamers.

I thought it would be good to make a list of games for dads that might just be the perfect choice to give him this Father’s Day. Every father is different of course. No father is the same. However, these games seem (to me) to exude the Vader-est energy. If you have a gamer dad, why not check it out?

So join me, kids of dads, for a trip down Daddery Lane (sorry) as we look at some Father’s Day gift ideas for the average gamer dad.

For the cleaning father

For the driving father

Gran Turismo 7 is a father game in my eyes because my father loves it. If your father a Top gear daddy he will enjoy Gran Turismo 7. You drive around in cool cars and go vroom vroom. Fathers like to go pious pious.

civilization VI

For the history buff dad

father’s love Sid Meier’s Civilization, and the most recent game of the series is a goodie. If your father is interested in historical figures and strategy games, this will probably become his new favorite if he hasn’t started it yet.

DOOM Eternal

For the rabid metal dad

DOOM Eternal is an essential game for any gamer dad who just wants to go crazy. In the fast paced boomer shooter, your dad will vent all his anger into nasty looking bad guys which can distract him from telling you to clean your room for the fifth time today.

DOOM Eternal is available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch.

The Last of Us: Part 1

For the father father

Although it’s not out yet, The Last of Us: Part 1 comes out Friday, so you can bet your dad hasn’t played this one yet. It is a thorough remake of the original game, using the newer technology Naughty Dog has. Not only is it one of the best dad-style games, but the graphics will make your dad say, “Wow!” It’s also about a father! combination!!

The Last of Us: Part 1 will be available September 2, 2022 on PlayStation 5, with a PC release coming “soon after.”

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

For the stepdad who performed

When I suggested to recommend Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury like a good Switch game for your dad, my colleague Zac Kelly agreed and sent me this shirt as his reasoning behind it. And it’s all true. Super Mario 3D World is a great game for the whole family, but Bowser’s Fury is a story of Mario who has to take his enemy’s son under his wing after his enemy goes into a little crazy mode. Strong stepfather energy.

For the boiling dada

While cooking mom may not be a game suitable for many dads (that’s not to say they can’t play it, I like the thought of a cooking mom dad), cooking simulator is easily a cooking dad game. It’s a more realistic take on the average cooking game and also allows for chaos. Dads like chaos.

Cursed to wave

For the golfing dad

I believe dads like a challenge, and they like golf too, so Cursed to wave is a perfect game for the golfing dad. Not only is it a golf-like game, but it’s also a huge pain in the butt. I like this game, it’s a very fun game. I’m sure your golfing dad will love it too.

Shower With Your Dad Simulator 2015

For the showering father

if you buy Shower With Your Dad Simulator 2015, it would be funny. That’s all. It would be a funny joke. He would either laugh at you or never look you in the eye again. A goofy trick for a funny Father’s Day joke.
