Although there are many horror movies in the summer, and the chill of the autumn air makes Halloween (1978) Even scarier, there’s something going on with a scary movie set in winter. The months of December, January and February can feel cold, isolated and miserable, and having a paranormal presence or serial killer sneaking up on the main characters certainly heightens the tension.
There are several great horror movies with wintry settings that have flown a bit under the radar. These movies have creepy atmospheres that will leave everyone cold, and they are best enjoyed with a cozy blanket and hot coffee or tea. If it’s snowing outside or it’s particularly windy and stormy, that’s even better.
Because Christmas is supposed to be a fun time for families hanging out together, and it’s all about baking cookies, drinking hot chocolate, and sharing gifts, horror movies set during this winter break are always fun. the 2006 black christmas remake is more interesting than 2019 as the main characters are sororities who feel like they are locked in their house trying to escape a killer. The characters flee from Billy Lenz (Robert Mann), who has a sad past and hangs out in the house because he wants revenge.
If this movie were set at any other time of the year, it wouldn’t have the same impact. The fact that the characters are trying to have a nice, quiet and peaceful vacation makes Billy’s killing spree even scarier.
Let me in is a great remake of a vampire movie and also a perfect example of a terrifying movie set in winter. When vampire Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz) befriends Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee), the two spend time together against an icy backdrop, and there are many scenes of them standing in the snow.
Since Abby isn’t human, she looks particularly cold, but Owen is just as pale as she is. The two characters are miserable and lonely for various reasons, and it doesn’t feel like the story could be set in another season as the atmosphere wouldn’t be there at all.
The Emma Roberts movie The Black Coat’s Daughter is not only clever, artistic and compelling, but the film is also set in winter. The film has a literary feel thanks to the many shots of the snowy terrain of a boarding school. As Kat (Kiernan Shipka) and Rose (Lucy Bonyton) get ready for the Christmas holidays, they look freezing all the time, and the movie shows just how cold it is there.
Although there are many horror movies in the summer, The Black Coat’s Daughter proves that winter can be an incredible environment, as the falling snow and chilly air contribute to a dramatic atmosphere where it feels like anything can happen. The movie has a lot of plot twists that are brilliant, impressive and even creepier because the characters look like they are so cold and uncomfortable.
the plot of the lodge would be scary enough, and adding it in the winter just makes it worse. Mia (Lia McHugh) and Aiden Hall (Jaeden Martell) vacation at the lodge of Grace Marshall (Riley Keough), their father Richard (Richard Armitage)’s new love interest. Grace begins to behave strangely, which confuses and scares the children.
It turns out that Grace was once part of a religious cult and she still seems to be under their spell. the lodge is an underrated horror movie from the 2010s and it’s clear that Mia and Aiden feel like they’re trapped in this house in the middle of nowhere, with no place to go and no one to listen to them. the lodge has a perfect horror movie environment as no one would want to spend time in this remote place.
The movie from 2021 Silent Night takes a different approach: the main characters celebrate Christmas dinner together before taking a pill that will kill them as Britain faces the end of the world. Nell (Keira Knightley) and Simon (Matthew Goode) have their friends over at their house for dinner.
A dark Christmas horror movie, Silent Night didn’t get that much attention when it was released, but it’s a compelling story and the main characters are definitely in a hard to imagine place. Since the reason the characters end their lives is related to climate change, the plot is scary to think about. The Christmas setting also makes the film even better, as it is meant to be a happy occasion.
