Sony Interactive Entertainment has been committed to making first-party games exclusively for PlayStation consoles for years. The increased prominence of PC gaming did not change the publisher’s approach to expanding its offerings. However, the turn of the century has changed things and has led to Sony releasing more of its titles on PC.
Major games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War and Spider-Man Remastered have left the PlayStation exclusivity and have arrived on PC. This isn’t the end either, as titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and the upcoming The Last of Us Part I will be released on PC.
Even after this great start, there’s a lot more that PlayStation can offer its new PC audience. Here are five more PlayStation exclusive titles that should go beyond the console’s exclusivity to PC.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
PC gamers will finally be introduced to the Uncharted franchise for the first time later this year when the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection hits the platform. This re-release includes remastered versions of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, as well as the standalone expansion Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Notably, this collection will be released on PC before Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, meaning PC players will experience the fourth installment in the franchise before the first three. Sony could further entice a new audience by bringing the previous three games to PC, perhaps in an all-in-one collection that includes all five titles.
Horizon Forbidden West
The most recently released entry on the list, Horizon Forbidden West, has been getting a lot of acclaim since its release in February. Sony is not releasing its PC ports at the same time as the console versions, which is why Forbidden West is currently only available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, was the first major PlayStation game to be released on PC in 2020, and sales soared as a result. Perhaps the PC release of Forbidden West is only a matter of time. If Zero Dawn has anything to offer, PC players would be more than excited to experience Aloy’s latest adventure on their platform.
Bloodborne
Bloodborne is still the only major FromSoftware title available on only one console. With the need for high-end hardware and the PlayStation 4 being demonstrated to the developer first, Sony was able to get their hands on it as an exclusive early in the eighth generation.
While FromSoftware has kept fans sated with excellent titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring since its release, fans have still been clamoring for the team to return to the world of Bloodborne. A PC re-release could be a great first step in expanding the game’s audience when the time comes for a continuation of the franchise.
Ratchet & Clank
When it comes to PlayStation’s illustrious history, it’s hard to talk about Sony’s first-party franchises without bringing up Ratchet & Clank. It’s one of the company’s longest-running IPs, and it’s still showing no signs of slowing down.
Even with the relative decline of 3D platformers in the 2000s and early 2010s, Ratchet & Clank has remained strong with the Ratchet & Clank Future series on PlayStation 3, as well as the 2016 re-imagining for PlayStation 4. Ratchet & Clank: Rift from last year Apart would be a great starting point for PC players.
Although Rift Apart is the 16th in the franchise, Insomniac Games has deliberately designed it as a standalone story, allowing players to enjoy the explosive action regardless of their experience with the series. It’s already quite a technical showcase for the PlayStation 5, and a PC release could take its technological achievements even further off the charts.
infamous
Sucker Punch has its hands full with Ghost of Tsushima’s incredible success in 2020. As a result, the developer recently announced that it has no plans to develop games in its previously established franchises, Sly Cooper and inFAMOUS.
While it may not get a new entry, it would certainly be welcome if PC gamers received an all-in-one collection featuring the main trilogy of games. Sony often abandons its franchises in the past, but the acquisition of porting developer Nixxes opens the door for more franchise revivals in the form of PC re-releases. I hope inFAMOUS is one of them.
There’s no shortage of great PlayStation exclusives, so there are more than a few left off the list. If any of your favorites were missed, let us know below!
