Atlus re-released their 2012 PSVita JRPG hit, Persona 4 Golden, for PC in 2020. With an HD upscale and some new elements to earn EXP and cash, the title felt like a bit of an improvement over the original release. For JRPG enthusiasts, it is one of the best games out there.
This list covers the basics to make the player’s life a little easier in the city of Inaba. For both newcomers persona 4 and JRPG enthusiasts, these tips are sure to come in handy.
Updated August 13, 2022, by Ritwik Mitra: The release of Persona 4 Golden on PC was a monumental event that shook the JRPG genre to its core. Finally, a game that had been exclusive to a near-defunct console for the longest time could finally be played on modern hardware with upscaled visuals and the like. While fans of the Persona series may know what to expect in this title, here are a few things to keep in mind for new players who don’t really know what this game has to offer.
15 Try the “last” dungeon as late as possible
One of the last dungeons players can try in the game is Magatsu Inaba, which appears at a pretty important point in the story. This can force people to finish it as quickly as possible, but it can even be detrimental to a player’s run.
This is because finishing Magatsu Inaba’s last fight immediately jumps the time forward to 12/23, regardless of when the player started. So it is recommended that players complete the dungeon on 12/24/22 or 12/12, the latter being achievable for players who don’t want to miss any special events taking place over the next two days.
14 Use mods to get the most out of the PC experience
PC players should make full use of the advantage they have on this platform while playing Persona 4 Golden. The best way to do this is to download mods that increase the overall experience.
Everything from graphical upgrades to gameplay tweaks can be used to improve the game in a variety of ways. While this is by no means a mandatory step, it is definitely recommended for fans who want to enjoy the best possible experience with this game.
13 Try to hunt hands as soon as possible
There are several special enemies that appear in dungeons in the form of a hand. They always try to run away from the player so it’s very important to chase them and hopefully get a surprise attack.
These hands have high evasion and defense, but players must do their best to defeat these enemies. They drop a lot of wealth and experience, and their rarity means that ideally every hand should be decimated by players to enjoy all these benefits.
12 Avoid The Reaper at all costs
The Reaper is a recurring enemy around the world Persona games that hunt the player by either appearing randomly on a floor or when players take too much time in a certain part of the dungeon. It’s an incredibly tough foe that will destroy early players with ease.
Players may only take on the Reaper if they are confident in their skills and are in the endgame. Jumping too early can have drastic consequences that are better avoided.
11 Finishing dungeons in one day can save a lot of time
This can be a chore, especially early in the game, but players should try to clear dungeons on the day they are unlocked. This means that players need to consider their SP usage and the recovery items they have on hand.
Trying to get free heals and grab a bunch of cheap recovery items is a great way to accomplish this goal. It gives players more time to interact with the world and its inhabitants, and even a single day makes a big difference when it comes to maximizing the game’s social links.
10 Register and merge personas
One of the first things players learn about in-game combat is how to acquire and summon personas. When entering the Velvet Room, players are given several options. Immediately register Personas in the Compendium to recall them later.
To merge personas means to create a new one. Without registering it, players have to track them down again. Additionally, merging Persona’s strong new creatures with likely even stronger battle stats. Don’t be afraid to experiment.
9 Don’t worry about side quests
Side quests in Persona 4 Golden often means re-entering a dungeon for materials. This can even involve entering a previously cleared dungeon. It feels similar to how, in Persona 3, players would enter previous floors of Tartarus to find loot for quests. However, this ultimately feels like a waste of time.
Finding quest items never becomes important in the game due to their meager rewards. In addition, players can sell quest loot for money and even do so accidentally. It may be more ideal to sell these items for better gear to enter dungeons with.
8 Prioritize party members’ social links
NPCs that affect skills in battle are just beginning Persona 5. That said, the only benefit of boosting NPC social ties is boosting Persona fusion levels. On the other hand, party members can influence battles in different ways.
These methods include everything from taking down an enemy, hitting with a follow-up attack, to even taking a fatal blow to the protagonist. It will be crucial to strengthen relations with party members first. This is especially true for Rise Kujikawa, who does not participate as a combat member. Instead, this navigator ally can recover HP, SP and give the whole party stat boosts.
7 Let the garden grow
Gardening allows players to grow vegetables to obtain items. These items include everything from HP/SP refills to Return Daikon. In this case, a Return Daikon acts as a Goho-M, allowing the player to escape from a dungeon. This can prevent a player from having to manually exit a dungeon.
Growing a garden doesn’t cost any activity points either. The only time it does this is to maintain it, which just speeds up the process. However, choosing to maintain the garden means building social bonds with Nanako and Dojima.
6 Use a guide to get the golden ending
Don’t feel ashamed to use a guide to unlock the Golden Ending. Persona 4 Golden features several endings, as opposed to a usual “Good and Bad” ending. This includes maximizing Marie’s social stat link, which should be prioritized along with party members’ links.
Players can also opt for a special ending by maximizing Adachi’s social link. However, be prepared to answer the right questions to trigger the endings. One guide in particular should help considerably.
5 Keep Teddy in your party
Like Chie, Teddie is adept at ice magic. However, he gains a lot more versatility in combat. Unlike the first, Teddie also gets healing arts.
In addition, Teddie’s social link progresses automatically. This allows the player to acquire his combat skills without spending extra time building the social link. In addition, it may be wise to compare Chie and Teddie’s skills for further reference.
4 Read the book that speeds up studying
Studying becomes an important task in Persona 4 Golden. This is usually the player’s main option during the night, until they can go out or get a job. Even then, boosting knowledge means more social link points among peers and free items for passing exams.
One book, in particular, will help players increase Knowledge much faster. “Expert Study Skills” allows the player to gain more knowledge points after studying. This means that fewer activity points are spent on studying. Buy this book as soon as possible.
3 Understand the fox’s help
In Inaba, players can find a shrine. Entering this will allow players to solve problems. When you do this, a fox will appear and reward the player as he builds social bonds. This yields very favorable rewards.
The fox will later enter the midnight channel so that the player can communicate. The fox can heal the party’s SP at a high cost. However, deleting the social link will lower the price. Clearing these side quests over the random ones in Inaba is highly recommended due to their greater incentives.
2 Increase EXP via Scaling
The PS Vita release of Persona 4 Golden requires sharpening on several key points. This can sometimes take hours. However, in the PC version, players can scale up their EXP. In fact, the successful release of the Steam version has scaled the game up to HD and enabled several new capabilities.
That said, it is recommended that you do this. Boost above the normal limit without worrying about being overwhelmed. This ensures that bosses still offer a challenge without being overwhelmed and forcing players to grind levels. Players looking for a harder challenge can also opt for a higher difficulty.
1 Trade your gems with the shop lady
The Shiroku Shop Lady trades in items and gems. While it is necessary to purchase items from her shop, players can also trade gems with her. However, this can involve serious farming levels to get a potentially rare gear item.
Depending on the player’s preference, selling them for weapons in the gunsmith’s shop may be ideal. However, this depends on the number of gems on one’s person. Be sure to at least contact the hostess to trade gems before selling them at the arsenal.
Persona 4 Golden is now available on PSP and PC. A release for PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch is planned for 2023.
