While loot-driven games along the lines of diablo have been around for decades, looters are relatively much younger. In-depth loot systems and first-person shooter combat make for a more instantly thrilling combination than the standard loot-hunting games of yesteryear. If that mix sounds interesting, our list includes the best Xbox One looter shooters to play today.

#10 Necromunda: Rented Gun

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5

Though the average person wouldn’t know it from the name, Necromunda: Rented Gun takes place in the Warhammer universe. The game’s fast-paced combat arenas allow for a decent amount of mobility. In addition to the accelerated movement speed, players can also run along walls, double jump, sprint and use a grappling hook to bridge the distance. All of this is packaged into role-playing systems, such as loot and skill trees.

#9 Shadow Warrior 2

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4

Shadow Warrior 2 expanded the scope of its predecessor, focusing on large nonlinear levels. This sequel also introduced co-op, which was to be dropped Shadow Warrior 3. Despite reluctance from the original fans, Shadow Warrior 2‘s fighting and writing still fits the shadow warrior account. More importantly, there is a renewed emphasis on progression and loot. This will incentivize you to replay side missions and progress through a new game in the name of better weapons and gems to put in your gear. Bringing a friend or three along will help ease the grind.

#8 Call of Duty: Warzone

Call of Duty: Warzone
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5

Call of Duty: Warzone It’s not for nothing that it remains one of the most popular battle royale games years after its release. It sees regular map updates, crazy collaborations, and timed events like the Godzilla vs Kong event. There has been some criticism of the integration with later Duty titles by taking up their arms, making them mess with an established meta. The loot system isn’t as sleek or exciting as contemporaries like Apex Legends. Despite this, it’s hard to argue against such satisfying firefights and animations courtesy of the Infinity Ward 9.0 engine.

#7 Deep Rock Galactic

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5

Deep Rock Galactic combines elements of life simulation games with traditional shooting combat. On each mission, a team of up to four players explore various underground cave systems. The goal is usually to collect a specified amount of resources before heading out to be extracted. Sometimes resources are found on ceilings or out of reachable walls, requiring coordination between the different classes. For example, the driller can drill through walls, while the operator has a platform cannon that spits out usable platforms. Each of the four classes has its own progression systems.

#6 Lot 2

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5

Lot 2 is one of the best looters on Xbox One. Bungie knows a thing or two about crafting satisfying firefights and enemy encounters, which are used in the game’s core missions, strikes, and more intense raids. Once players complete the main story, there will still be weekly content to browse and loot to collect. This game will keep you playing for a long time thanks to the level system and exotic weapons. Bungie uses its sci-fi setting to allow for more exciting weapons than a typical looter shooter like The division.

#5 War frame

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch

warframe is one of the best looter shooters on Xbox One, which makes it even more appealing because it’s free to play. Fortunately, the loot hunt is backed up by equally captivating mechanics. Combat is solid enough, but it’s the traversal that makes warframe excel. While looking uncomfortable to a passive observer, warframe‘s movement feels great. It is one of the most responsive movement systems in a modern game. Unfortunately, the free play of nature is also the only major weakness. In addition to the resource requirements for warframes, unless you spend money you will have to wait more than a few days for them to be created.

#4 Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands DLC
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5

While humor, fantastic sets and strange characters have always been central to the border areas series, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands responds to these specific elements. You play a tabletop RPG with the eccentric Tiny Tina acting as the dungeon master. This allows for more creativity within its environments and game design. As such, this extravagance lets the looter-shooter elements shine. If you ever liked border areasyou will be just as pleased with Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

#3 Apex Legends

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch

While not a looter shooter in the traditional sense, loot still plays an important role in battle royale games. In this sense, Apex Legends is one of the best of its genre due to several quality of life implementations. You rarely look at the gear screen because the game automatically swaps weapon attachments when interacting with something of a higher rarity. You are rarely allowed to return to worse gear, outside of weapon sights, which often comes down to personal preference. Apex Legends also spawned the contextual ping system, which other shooters like Rainbow Six Siege have since borrowed. Apex Legends offers the thrill of the loot hunt without much downtime.

#2 Risk of rain 2

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch

Risk of rain 2 successfully translates the frenetic roguelike action of the original into a 3D environment. While each of the locations is handcrafted, the roguelike elements come from the items dropped by enemies. These can drastically change your run, especially when combined with the 11 playable characters, who have their own unique skills and playstyles. A run can go on forever, supported by a continuously evolving scaling system. This prevents both players and enemies from reaching a maximum power cap during a run. There’s even a full four-player co-op for those who want to bring their friends along.

#1 Borderlands Series

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch

The core border areas series offers the same thrilling firefights and expansive loot systems as Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. While later entries missed the mark in writing, they’re still worth playing for the inventive weapons alone. Through Borderland 3some weapons even shoot legs and act as autonomous turrets when reloaded. Borderland 3 even introduced a refined feedback system into the franchise, where enemies reacted more convincingly to gunfire depending on the weapon or targeted limb. The first two border areas however, games are the most balanced entries.
