There are many video games whose entire artistic style is based on imitating life. That in itself is great, but when a game goes one step further, a game really starts to stand out. There is a plethora of games that aim to look like something no one has experienced before. Those are some of the games that unlock parts of our imagination that players may never have known existed.

This list shows players some of the most artistically individual video games available. It is not to say that one is better than the other, but to show beautiful games.

DUALSHOCKERS VIDEO OF THE DAY

10/10 Walk Hero

Loop Hero has CRT pixel art, which makes it all the more fun to watch. The way the game allows players to build the map themselves adds a level of artistic value to the placement of areas. Cards players eventually create become huge organic pieces.

It’s nice to watch the available environments grow into beautiful blooming lakes, mountains or cities. The animations, while they look like part of an NES, are stunning in their own right.

9/10 limbo

Limbo is hailed by many as a game that presents itself not only as a video game, but also as an art form. Many people have compared this game to film noir movies and the bleak aesthetic really makes this pop. The game has minimalist shadowy backgrounds and figures.

This allows the player to feel like they are walking through Limbo. The style of the game drives it. It creates many interesting effects during the journey using light.

8/10 Borderlands

Borderlands’ art direction may look cel-shaded, but that’s not the case at all. The style replicates that of a comic book which is why it is so stylistically unique. Everything from the design of the terrain around the player to the different types of enemies makes for glorious eye candy.

Yes, some lands can be barren, but the comic book art style makes players want to explore new areas and see if they are a sight to behold.

7/10 okami

Okami has a unique art style that is full of color to create stunning images. Everything in this game is made to pay its respects to the Japanese art style of ink wash painting. Everything down to the main character’s movements is stylized.

Running around will have beautiful plants growing from the main character’s footsteps, adding to the already beautiful areas the player travels through. Combat in the game is also artistically justified and involves the use of a brush as an attack.

6/10 Super Mario Sunshine

Super Mario Sunshine sets and sticks to a tropical island theme. The visuals are fun and full of color and everything looks like it will burst through a player’s screen. The game that revolves around the clearing of paint ensures that the product before and after clearing a level attracts the player’s attention.

Everything about each area is comforting to be a part of. Playing this art style is a lot softer than other titles, but that makes it one of the best artistic settings.

5/10 dark souls

Dark Souls has some of the best looking designs in gaming in terms of the cohesion the areas bring about. The medieval romantic art style that engulfs the game adds to the melancholic tones that the player’s adventures bring. It’s not just that the graphics are good.

The graphics are good, but the artistic choices in the atmosphere of each location create something unmistakably similar to Renaissance pieces. Anyone who has jumped into this difficult world can tell someone that it is not only the challenge of the game that captivates them, but also the atmosphere.

4/10 fEZ

FEZ has a futuristic style that comes with its signature cross between 2D and 3D graphics. Each area feels like a moving work of art that grabs the player’s attention. The game is meant to be taken slowly and methodically. There is no pressure or rush in his experience and that allows players to bask in his artistic subtleties.

It is one of the most beautiful games in the 8-bit genre. Seeing something that was originally supposed to be 2D, making the switch to 3D in the blink of an eye, and then back to 2D again is something special.

3/10 Cult of the Lamb

In an interview with Gamerant, the art director, James Pierman, said, “the art style in Cult of the Lamb is still unashamedly cartoon”, and this explains this game in a farcical way. The game is a combination of horrifying visuals mixed with cute cuddly creatures. Even the toughest and most gruesome bosses have a cute edge.

That makes the player feel confused about whether to hug them or run away. It’s that unique aspect that makes the style fit so well.

2/10 Psychonauts 2

Psychonauts 2 thrives within surrealism. The great thing about this is the levels it can create. Everything feels like its own, because no two spaces look the same. The color palettes are constantly changing to create a different emotional feeling.

Whatever the character in whose mind the player is is given by the textures and themes of the areas. Overall, Psychonauts 2 is one of the most unique concepts of the bunch.

1/10 cup

Cuphead’s art style can be appreciated by anyone who understands his hard work. It has a beautiful rubber hose style. The rubber snake style is the cartoon aesthetic of the 1930s that was placed in the artistic atmosphere of the game.

What makes all this stand out is the fact that the game has watercolor backgrounds. Additionally, all of the game’s frames were hand drawn and then inked to be placed later in the game.
