Xbox Game Pass Day One Title: As Dusk Falls

In short, When dusk falls is an interactive drama about two families in thirty years. The interactive drama part means there are countless choices, with players expecting different outcomes for the different characters involved. It has a unique graphics style, as seen in the trailer above, and is perhaps more “cinematic” than other choice-heavy games like Life is Strange: True Colors. After all, Interior Night describes it as a motion-based graphic novel.

The game begins in 1988 with a robbery in Arizona that goes horribly wrong, and its impact spans three decades of “betrayal, sacrifice, and resilience,” according to developer Interior Night. The story sounds intriguing, and combined with the different choices and characters, When dusk falls promises a high replay value as players can discover how different decisions affect each character and their development over this extended period.

Such choices include how characters interact with their toxic families in When dusk falls, what certain characters would sacrifice for loved ones, how their past comes back to haunt them, and so on. Each decision not only affects one character, but can affect both families involved as they recover / move on / deal with the generational curse of their family’s mistakes.

Perhaps the most intriguing feature is that this interactive drama can be experienced by more than one player as players can do co-op in When dusk falls with up to 8 players on different devices, where each person can cast their own vote. All in all, it sounds like an interactive group movie night, and with a plot like that, it can be a good time with friends or solo.
