The weekend is all about living the latest film from the visionary mind of Jordan Peele. Well, actually that’s what my Thursday was for. But you should definitely use your weekend to see Nope, the best alien invasion movie since Arrival, and the best summer blockbuster since Top Gun: Maverick (I understand it’s not that long ago, but I’m not going to pretend that Maverick is the air does not rule).

And of course, the weekend is all about playing video games and staying seated with a fan pointed at your face to stay safe during the heat. This weekend, Stray, Sonic Origins, and Multiversus are on the roll for our staff of Gamers.

Unfortunately I’m going camping this weekend so I won’t be playing video games. Of course, if I was at home I would play PowerWash Simulator and remove dirt and grime from various objects while listening to podcasts. But I will camp, meaning I will instead be the object that accumulates dirt and grime.

This is the first weekend since Stray, one of my most anticipated games of the year, launched, so obviously I’ll get caught up in MultiVersus. Warner Bros. IP soup platform brawler is very wacky, but it’s just a bit too much fun to resist. Spamming like Taz has lost its appeal and if you’re still doing it, know I don’t like you. Luckily my main friend Velma has some great counters and is cute too and I love her.

Dinkum! If I have the chance to go to the PC, at least. dinkum. dinkum. dinkum. Say it a few more times. It won’t make it any less stupid. Dinkum is an Animal Crossing/Stardew Valley-esque game with crocodiles deep in the Australian outback. Developed by a solo developer, the game is absolutely charming. Can’t wait to play more of it.

I’ll most likely be playing the cat game everyone is talking about because it looks absolutely gorgeous – although I could actually play a cat and sleep all weekend. Live A Live is out too, and I’m an absolute sucker for 16-bit era RPGs. I bet I end up spending more time wondering how to pronounce it than playing it.

Now that I’m no longer being held hostage by Live A Live prior to the review embargo, I can finally spend more time on Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which is also holding me hostage with an upcoming review embargo. It’s a hard life to be a game journalist, but someone has to do it. But other than that, I’m working my way through Stray and being a clean girl in Power Wash Simulator. The PSN summer sale has also started, so I’m tempted to dig into some bargains in between rounds of Multiversus. I’m not a fan enough to buy the premium pass yet, but maybe this weekend will change my mind as the open beta comes to more and more players.

It’s me, the Yakuza superfan. Forget Meg, Andy or that guy who worked here. I’m working on Yakuza Kiwami 2 and I’m ready to hand in every other game I own and dedicate myself to Yakuza, Yakuza and Judgment. I’m already planning on getting into that weird PS3 zombie spin-off. The series really got its teeth into me and it doesn’t help that everything is exactly on Game Pass, but that means I can persuade you to try it out, because you should.

After a whole week of feeling like I’m going to melt into a pool of sweat thanks to the UK’s relentless heatwave, I’m ready to take out my many frustrations on horde after horde of hostile mooks. That’s why I’ll be launching Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, recently remastered for PCs. I love a Musou game, yes, and WO3U is one of the best Koei Tecmo has ever released – the fluid controls and massive cast of characters mean there’s always a reason to fire up the game over and over again 10,000 doomed redshirts to kill.

Rhiannon Bevan, new editor

I’m back home after some travel, and wow, there’s quite a number of games to catch up on. However, I plan to ignore them completely and keep playing Sonic Origins instead. I’m currently bossing around Sonic CD, and as much as this mega CD classic made me want to pull my hair out, it’s probably my favorite game in the collection. And then there’s that banging soundtrack. God I’ve missed my PlayStation so much.
