Creative Assembly, the developer of Total War: Warhammer 3, accidentally shows off some of the unannounced future DLC Chaos factions.

It’s no secret that Creative Assembly, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Total War franchise, is running Total War: Warhammer 3 into a huge, expansive content platform that houses nearly a decade of development in one campaign. The so-called “Immortal Empires” game mode will effectively combine the entire trilogy into a unified gameplay experience, and modularity is a crucial part of this project.

To this end, it was to be expected that Total War: Warhammer 3 would get a whole library of extensive post-launch DLC to support Immortal Empires for years to come. Now, though, it looks like Creative Assembly just gave its player base a first look at what some of this DLC could be as part of the recent developer Q&A livestream.

Viewers saw the four previously unannounced factions at 9:55 a.m. of the 16-minute video, and it appears that the focus is entirely on Total War: Warhammer 3Chaos gods for now. The factions in question are Puppets of Misrule, Legion of the Gorequeen, The Ecstatic Legions, and the Fecundites, and very little is known about them other than their titles and allegiances. Of course, one can assume that the Puppets of Misrule would fall under the rule of Tzeentch, but there is no telling yet who their leaders might be.

Furthermore, it’s also worth pointing out that Creative Assembly has not yet outright confirmed that these would be DLC factions. The community is pretty sure of this, but it’s recommended that fans keep a pinch of salt on their implementation and details until the developers themselves make an official announcement. Something similar happened with the datamined TW: Warhammer 3 Chaos Dwarf faction, which seems to have been notably absent from the “leaked” list.

Since Creative Assembly is actively teasing fans about Immortal Empires, it’s also very possible that the four new Chaos factions were intentionally included as part of the Q&A stream to cheer players up. After all, it took a keen eye to spot the unannounced factions, and the company is known to occasionally give hints about upcoming content for its pending titles.

However it may be, Total War: Warhammer 3‘s faction list will no doubt grow even larger in the coming months and years. The upcoming Immortal Empires campaign promises to put most of the other grand strategy game modes to shame with the sheer amount of content on display, and it looks like Creative Assembly can still use the platform to virtualize all the key bits of the classic warhammer fantasy table top.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is available on Mac, Linux and Windows PC. Immortal Empires launches on August 23.
