A series of posters by Tokyo Revengers recently popped up at major train stations in the Tokyo area. The posters feature new artwork from most of the main characters. The new posters were put up to mark the series' recent anniversary event.
The posters first appeared on June 13 at the busy Shibuya Station in Tokyo. The posters were only on display for a very limited time, from June 13 to June 19. Fans of Tokyo Revengers traveled from all over the city to see the huge display of posters.
Tokyo Revengers is a popular manga and anime series about a man named Takemichi who can travel 12 years back to the time when he was in high school. In doing so, he tries to prevent future events - especially tragedies. Every time he travels to the past, things inevitably change for his own destiny and that of those around him. The manga was first published in 2017 and is currently underway. It won the Kodansha Manga Award for the shonen category in 2020 and has sold over 50 million copies to date.
Both a live-action movie and an anime series were released in 2021 and have become hugely popular in Japan and abroad. The anime was first announced on June 19, 2020, which is what the special series of posters celebrates. A special event was held that day in Shibuya as a 2nd "Memorial and Formation" live celebration. Many voice actors attended the live event, including Yuuki Shin (Takemichi Hanagaki), Yu Hayashi (Manjiro Sano,) Masaaki Mizunaka (Keisuke Bachi), Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Takashi Mitsuya), and Sho Karino (Chifuyu Matsuno).
The posters themselves have most of the most important Tokyo Revengers cast - Takemichi, Dragons, Mitsuya, Baji, Chifuyu, Parchin, Peyan and Ichitora. They also have Mikey's famous quote, 「日和ってるやついる?」, which roughly means "Is there a sunny man?". One of the largest posters featuring Mikey also has Hachiko, the famous dog statue that is a landmark of Shibuya, in the background.
The anime is set in Tokyo, so it makes sense to tie the posters to such a famous location. Most of the posters were on display in Shibuya, but were located in and around major Tokyo stations such as Shinjuku and Yokohama. These types of poster events are very popular in Japan and draw huge crowds of people who travel to see them.
