When it comes to lineage, there are tons of characters with amazing and surprising parents in Blue Exorcist. However, none of them are as ridiculous and tragic as the lineage of the main characters themselves, Rin and Yukio Okumura. We already know quite early in the series that the Okumura brothers are the sons of a normal human mother. However, it is their father who is quite surprising. Because their father is none other than Satan himself.

That alone is quite shocking. However, what most people don’t realize is how devastating the real story about their parents actually is. This article reveals the true story of Rin and Yukio’s parents. The anime and manga each take a different approach to their original story, but this article sticks to the manga.

Who are The Okumura Brothers?

Rin and Yukio Okumura are fraternal twin brothers who choose to follow the step of their adoptive father, Shiro Fujimoto. So they become exorcists and work to save people from the danger of demons.

Unbeknownst to Rin, however, Yukio has already become an exorcist years before Rin even contemplates such a decision. As a result, although Rin is technically the older brother between the two, Yukio is his superior when it comes to an exorcist. After all, as of this writing, Yukio has already become a Paladin, the highest rank an exorcist can attain, while Rin is still an Exwire, basically just a student exorcist.

Though the brothers hate their biological father with the burning fury of a thousand suns, they can both still use Satan’s power to some degree. Of the two, Rin is the one who inherits the power of the blue fire from his father. That is why when he unleashes that power, a pair of horns and a tail made of blue flame appear on his body. As for Yukio, he is more or less a normal human being. However, his left eye is connected to Satan and when activated, whether he likes it or not, Satan will be able to see through Yukio’s body and impose his will on him.

How their parents meet

As mentioned earlier, the boys’ father is the king of the underworld, Satan. While their mother is an ordinary human named Yuri Egin. Yuri was an orphan raised by some homeless people when she met young Shiro Fujimoto. Yuri quickly becomes attached to Shiro and even joins the True Cross Academy and becomes an exorcist like him. However, unlike Shiro, she believes that demons and humans can understand each other and live together in harmony. This belief is also what makes her closer to Satan. To be honest, when Yuri first met Satan, he was just a little blue fire. She considers him her little demon friend and even calls him Rinka.

After a few years in True Cross Academy and working together as an exorcist, Yuri finally realizes that she is in love with the man who saved her and has been with her all these years, Shiro Fujimoto. What Yuri doesn’t realize, however, is the fact that the Shiro is actually an experimental subject of the True Cross Academy in their efforts to create the perfect body for the Demon Kings. After all, demons must possess a living human body if they want to materialize in the human world.

Unbeknownst to anyone, Satan manages to possess one of the Order’s failed clones that is virtually identical to Shiro. Since Yuri is the only human who has been with Satan for years, he demands to be with her all the time, otherwise he threatens to kill every human he sees. And so Yuri and Satan ended up spending time together. Through their interaction, Yuri begins to think that Satan is really capable of compassion and that he can be taught to be kind to people. And when she opens her heart to him, and the fact that he looks identical to the man she loves, the inevitable happens, and she eventually becomes pregnant with Satan’s child.

What happened to their parents?

When the True Cross Order realizes Yuri is pregnant, they immediately separate Yuri from Satan. At that time, the clone body that Satan possessed began to deteriorate because it could not contain his enormous strength. As if that weren’t enough, being separated from Yuri also makes him emotionally unstable.

Things are extremely chaotic when Yuri gives birth to the twins. Rin, in particular, is an uncontrollable little demon who manages to injure numerous high-level members of the Order. At the same time, Satan rages on possessing several people in his attempt to find the right body, kill hundreds of innocent people and wreak havoc on the city in the process. That terrible night will be remembered as the Blue Night.

When Shiro Fujimoto, who has become an incredibly powerful exorcist, seals Rin powers in the Kurikara sword, while the other high-ranking exorcists team up to banish Satan, it finally begins to calm down. However, when the True Cross Order wants to kill both Yuri and her babies, Shiro decides to betray the Order and flee with Yuri. Unfortunately, Yuri has become too weak at this point. She dies in the arms of the man she loves with a smile on her face, wishing the best for her boys.

When Shiro returns to the Order, Mephisto Pheles forces him to care for the child and train them to become a true warrior. And so Shiro Fujimoto becomes Rin and Yukio’s adoptive father. Satan, on the other hand, knows that his sons are the perfect vessel for him. So he bids his time until they are ready to be possessed.
