World of Warcraft: Dragonflight will see the dragon aspects return to the foreground of the warcraft story. Players travel to their ancient home of the Dragon Isles and help them reclaim it. The story promises to be a return to form for the game, and it will be filled to the brim with that classic warcraft to feel. Much of the story is still shrouded in mystery, but it will most likely contain elements of the dragon aspects’ past. In particular, the story may contain references to the Father of Dragons himself, Galakrond.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The dragon Aspects of World of Warcraft were not always powerful creatures to protect Azeroth. There was a time when they were just five proto-dragons of different colors united to fight back a dangerous foe. This enemy came in the form of a huge proto-dragon named Galakrond that was said to be the progenitor of the dragon child. He was once an ally to the others, but something happened that turned him into a destructive force that had to be stopped. The events of his demise have only been discussed in a novel, but his story may appear in the upcoming expansion.

Galakrond’s Wave of Destruction

Galakrond was once a benevolent massive proto-dragon who would hunt alongside his fellow proto-dragons, but something happened that suddenly turned him hostile. It is not known what exactly went wrong with Galakrond, but it is believed that his demise was due to the actions of Watcher Tyr. He went on to devour his fellow proto-dragons, but they wouldn’t just die. Any dragon he cannibalized would rise up as an undead dragon known as a Non-living one. These Non-living ones were completely under his control, and he would send his new army after the living proto-dragons.

The Non-living hunted other proto-dragons and infected those they bit. Five dragons of different colors teamed up against the evil Galakrond in the hope that they could stop him. These dragons were known as Malygos, Nozdormu, Neltharion, Ysera and Alexstrasza. They fought Galakrond in battle with Tyr’s help, and together they were able to drive him out. However, the danger presented by Galakrond was far from over.

Tyr met the future dragon aspects and told them that Galakrond had taken refuge in the mountains. They gathered their strength and struck while he slept. A grueling battle began that would result in the loss of Tyr’s hand and artifacts. Galakrond further mutated after devouring Tyr’s objects, and the dragon aspects would flee as he basked in his victory. They retreated to regain their strength so they could defeat him for good.

The final battle against Galakrond

The future dragon aspects attacked Galakrond and his non-living troops again at Dragonblight. Malygos was able to distract Galakrond by sticking a boulder in his throat, and that would force him to lose his focus on his Non-living army. The army began to turn against each other as Galakrond continued to struggle with the boulder. Malygos used his ice breath to hold it in place while Neltharion threw in a Non-living. This caused the boulder to go even deeper into Galakrond’s throat, and he choked on it.

Galakrond was defeated on that day, and the aspects promised to keep the truth about the dragon a secret. They told people that the Titans created the aspects of Galakrond and that he would be nicknamed Vader of Dragons. It’s unclear if the rumor has any basis in reality, but the aspects keep telling the dragons that no other dragon will cross his path. However, a secret like this cannot be hidden from the other dragons forever.

World of Warcraft players can visit Galakrond’s remains in Galakrond’s Rest in Dragonblight. Many troops have tried to revive the dragon and others have used its remains as a base of operations. Other than that, there haven’t been many mentions of Galakrond in World of Warcraft. However, that can all change when: dragon flight rolls around and players begin to explore the history of the aspects across the Dragon Isles.

World of Warcraft is now available on PC.
