Greatness awaits you in the great outdoors, but there’s a reason Sony’s marketing department claims similar things can happen from the comfort of your own living room. With summer temperatures skyrocketing, the weather outside is terrifying, but you Play station home console is here to be a treasure and protect you from the slaves of boredom.
Okay, that might have been a little rough. But the point is that PlayStation owners have plenty of good games to keep themselves entertained while the heat is really unbearable. We’ve put together a neat little list of real recommendations, including some cross-gen content. After all, it’s not like PS5s grow on trees.
Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy
Square Enix’s spin on Peter Quill and his gang of alien misfits took a bigger climb to find financial success than you’d expect from such a popular brand. The proverbial source was somewhat tarnished by the mixed reception of Marvel’s Avengers, which launched in 2020. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxysome players reasoned, would certainly be disappointing.
However, the two games are drastically different, so if you didn’t love the Moon Knight with developer Crystal Dynamics’ take on Tony Stark and friends, you might still love Guardians of the Galaxy. While Avengers’ approach to the main campaign is mainly pitched through the lens of a live service game, Guardians sticks entirely to the one-off premise of telling a taut, entertaining adventure with all the signature humor and brutality you’ve come to expect from this gang.

Riders Republic
We’ve already used the word once, and you’ll notice we’ll be using it a few more times in the future: adventure. What is summer, if not a time to – weather and leisure permitting – go on an escapade, a dream vacation or a local hiking park, or whatever.
Ubisoft’s Riders Republic won’t send you to the stars or introduce you to a smart talking raccoon, but this sports game offers as much thrill as any space charade. Mountain biking is a classic summer vibe, and while skiing and snowboarding may have more wintery connotations, millions of people reside in colder regions each summer. Most impressive is Riders Republic’s wingsuit flight mode.
And if you’re competitive, Riders Republic even offers “Mass Race” competitions for up to 64 players on PS5 and Xbox Series. (Former players are stuck with 20, but that’s still pretty neat.)

Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
PlayStation has long been a destination for fans of Japanese role-playing games. From the moment Final Fantasy 7 drew attention to the original PlayStation, Sony’s platforms have been synonymous with the genre. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is another great JRPG, but it’s also something more – by teaming up with Team Ninja, the scheming creators of the fast-paced action RPG series Nioh, Square has found its own angry answer to Dark Souls.
And make no mistake, the main character of this game is downright furious. Many memes have been created in honor of Jack, whose aggressive antics gave Stranger of Paradise’s early marketing an unintentionally hilarious edge. But despite the game’s strong focus on technical action combat and customizable track classes, there’s still enough story here to give Crazy Jack more than a hint of character growth by the end.

Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection
So far, we’ve kept the spotlight on summer PlayStation games that can be played on PS5 or its (still!) easier-to-find predecessor, PS4. In fact, we’ll get back to that trend soon. But Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a special exception. Kind of.
What we have here is a breathtaking remaster of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, PlayStation 4’s emotional swan song on the epic adventure (there’s that word again) of reckless treasure hunter Nathan Drake. Not long after the arrival of Uncharted 4 in 2016, Uncharted: Lost Legacy, a smaller-scale but nonetheless impressive sequel to the spin-off.
Both episodes are notable for their series-defining set pieces and sizzling cast chemistry, and PlayStation 5 owners who’ve skipped them in the past or just want to see old favorites with a fresh coat of paint won’t be disappointed.

Elden Ring
There’s a ton of library crossovers between the PlayStation and Xbox ecosystems, and when we think of great summer games for one platform, we think it’s best to consider the individual strengths of a multiplatform title and consider these. on that particular side of the fence . That’s why our summer Xbox list is largely unrelated to this one.
For the most part. It’s hard to overestimate how impactful Elden Ring was in the first half of 2022. FromSoftware has gone from a household name within the realm of action-loving role-playing fans, courtesy of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, to simply a concept. Game enthusiasts for every genre have stopped and taken note in a way that few RPGs do. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim? The Witcher 3? The largest of the major leagues.
Why did Elden Ring make such a mark? Is it the vast and captivating, melancholic world? Is it the further refined “Soulsborne” combat that challenges fearlessly but fair? Is it the deep lore, courtesy of fantasy author and professional frustration prescriber George RR Martin? It is, of course, all of the above and more.

Horizon Forbidden West
By now, we’ve recommended a space adventure, a sports adventure, an evil man adventure, a debonair man adventure, and the kind of grim and gothic adventure you should probably avoid when you’re half asleep.
Horizon Forbidden West, the ongoing story of breakthrough heroine Aloy from 2017, eagerly gives us a real buffet of a personal favorite – fight-robot-dinosaurs-while-save-the-world-and-solve-the-mysteries-of-a-fragmented- human race… adventure. It’s a lot to take in, and we definitely recommend playing Horizon Zero Dawn beforehand, but Horizon Forbidden West makes it all seem that way
Aloy learns more and more about what really happened to humanity in Forbidden West, and in the process boasts some much-needed upgrades to her skills and firepower.

Kena: Bridge Of Spirits
Rounding out this summer’s best PlayStation picks Kena: Bridge of Ghosts, a game that is as much about its memorable atmosphere as any other gameplay or storytelling aspect. First game developer Ember Lab knocked it out of the park with a beautiful world and captivating soundtrack; In case you didn’t know, Ember Lab’s more than decade-long history prior to Kena: Bridge of Spirits includes delivering stunning animation and other digital content for companies from Coca-Cola to Crayola.
Kena is all about charm, and we mean that for its titular protagonist. Kena is a young spiritual guide who possesses in equal parts the wonder of a child and the wisdom of a guru. The characters Kena meets, the environments she explores, and the resolution of the story will all resonate with anyone longing for the next great Miyazaki movie.
