After 10 months at Spacestation Gaming, Alexander “Skys” Magor has left the team. The move was announced on July 16 on Twitter by the organization.

Skys initially found the success of a series of rosters since Year One of R6 esports. After translating an NA-topping Pro League Season 3 into a Six Invitational win on Xbox 2017, he then switched to PC where he competed in organizations such as Elevate, Team Reciprocity, and DarkZero Esports. During this time, he attended eight global events, culminating in a runner-up exit during Pro League Season 5 and semi-finals during SI 2019 and Pro League Season 10.

Following this, Skys joined Spacestation Gaming in September 2021, where he replaced Javier “Thinkingnade” Escamilla and reunited with his former DarkZero teammate, Matthew “Hotancold” Stevens.

After joining, SSG debuted with a quarter-final appearance at the Six Sweden Major – the best result of any North American team. A 9-12th place finish followed the 2022 Six Invitational, which, while better than their 2021 SI result, was the worst result of any NA team in attendance.

Now, most recently, the team’s progress in 2022 has caused them to miss both the Charlotte and Berlin Majors.

While both phases were tight, up until the final day of play, this is still well below what is expected from Spacestation Gaming, which is likely to lead to the change.

Skys initially debuted on the roster as the hard breach and planter, a role he retained at SI 2022. Things changed in the 2022 season when this role moved to Bosco and Skys moved into a more flexible position.

This worked well initially as he achieved the third highest SiegeGG Rating in the entire NA League at 1.20, equaling David ‘iconic’ Ifidon from Astralis. However, by Stage 2, this had dropped to 0.98 as he had the biggest drop of all SSG players, although he still had the third highest rating on the team.

Missing the Berlin Major means it’s almost certain that Spacestation Gaming will have to go through the open qualifiers to reach the Six Invitational 2023.

SSG is no stranger to this as they took the same route on their way to their 2020 SI title. However, this means that if they think a change is needed, it’s better to do it now rather than after phase 3 – just a few weeks before the open qualifiers start.

Spacestation Gaming is now looking for a replacement player, while Skys is looking for a new team. Stay tuned for more information when it’s announced.
