On Reddit, user QueenL3fah shared a video of the custom Game Boy cartridge they created that doubles as a Pokedex. The footage includes Redditor showing what the cartridge looks like on the back of the Game Boy and also what the screen looks like when it boots up. QueenL3fah also demonstrated how they were able to input letters, typing the word “Bulbasaur” and finally showing the Pokémon’s Pokedex entry. While there are still a lot of issues with the Pokedex Game Boy cartridge, the engineering work and attention to detail is very impressive.

According to QueenL3fah, they referred to an external source when producing the Game Boy cartridge. However, they went to great lengths to modernize or replace other components used in their source due to the unavailability of some of them. Comments on the Reddit thread also asked QueenL3fah if they would be interested in producing more custom Pokedex devices and putting them up for sale. Unfortunately, the original poster doesn’t seem interested in doing so, given the expense and difficulty of creating the cartridge.

The Redditor seemed interested in sharing his knowledge with the rest of the pokemon community. They plan to make a document that details the process and describes what others can do if they want to recreate the project. with many pokemon fans also interested in tinkering with technology, some are likely to take the knowledge and experience offered by QueenL3fah to make a Pokedex cartridge of their own.
