No Man’s Skys The latest update, Endurance, has completely reworked the freighter network to provide players with new and improved options for their home among the stars. Cargo ships have always been an exciting feature in No Man’s Sky, starting with their inclusion in trailers and the game’s launch. When the Foundation update added base-building capabilities to players’ cargo ships, many loved the portable base that allowed them to travel forever. Players often forgo planetary bases to control their freighter and frigate fleet.
Before Endurance, freighters received only minor TLC through the free updates that Hello Games continues to provide. Endurance has changed the landscape or starscape, enhancing black holes, asteroid fields and stellar novas by making freighters truly the master ships of the stars. Freighters used to be essentially extra stock stores with limited basic functions for growing crops and traveling long distances; they have now become powerhouses capable of dominating the galaxies they travel through.
Advanced teleportation, scanning and refining
Previously, players could build teleporters in their cargo bays, making it relatively easy for them to quickly deform to planetary bases or space stations. However, the journey was a one-way street. Endurance has created a full teleportation room that is fully capable of sending players to and from their freighter without any intermediate stops. In addition, players can now teleport directly from the hanger to the bridge, so they don’t have to walk along the paths. Short-range teleporters have also opened for easy access to freighter bases that are getting too big.
Now freighters have refinement rooms that can be easily placed as part of the new freighter aesthetic without being limited to a certain number. Players who have learned how to refine significant amounts of elements, minerals, plants, gases and the like for mass production of units or nanites can run their industrialization factory on the go. To further help refine practices, freighter scanners have been upgraded to name all the planets in the galaxy and provide source information to the bridge.
Extraction, Agriculture and Spacewalks
Mineral extraction areas have also been added to the newly created refining and scanning areas. These chambers can extract precious interstellar metals and minerals from the galaxy, allowing players to reap the benefits of massive harvests. Greenhouses provide oxygen to the atmosphere and are an easy way to collect carbon in large quantities instead of mining rigs on the surface of planets. Farming rooms now offer the ability to grow advanced crops in the cargo ship for crafting expensive advanced trade items. In addition, specialists have their cabins and regularly patrol the ship to make sure everything works as designed.
Perhaps most exciting is the ability to create corridors, doors, and rooms with windows, allowing players to pace the corridors of their freighter and see the cosmic expansion around them. Bulkhead doors, walkways and platforms have been added so players can build outside and around their freighter to see the view further. These features allow any player with a freighter and frigate fleet to see their armada floating in space, with even the ability to teleport to damage frigates in need of repair.
No Man’s Sky continues to provide update after update, improving and adding new features to the game and creating a rich level of depth to the current systems. The Endurance update has provided this for freighters, frigates, and aspects of space itself to give players more features to explore and build. Through new and improved base builds, the game offers players tired of exploring the planet the opportunity to control their fleet and really take on the galaxy. Thanks to advanced scanning, teleporting, refining, extracting and farming, it’s never been a better time for players to control their destiny.
No Man’s Sky is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with Switch in development.
