wordle is an easy to learn word puzzle game. This simple game went viral on many social media platforms in early 2022, but it remains quite popular in the English-speaking world. If anyone has yet to try it, here’s some help to get a new player up and running.

How to play Wordle

Although there are tons of copycats, clones and even an official wordle board game, there is only one original. wordle is currently hosted on the New York Times Games site where it resides since the paper bought it earlier this year. All hints and rules in the article are about this version; other Words will have different answers and may even have different rules. This is how you play:

Go to the correct site and choose a starting word. It should be five letters long, a real English word, and it should have a good distribution of regular letters in wordle puzzles. Type the chosen start word into the site and press enter. This will fill in the top row of the 5×6 grid on the site and the letters will change color. The colors give players some clues about the real answer.

Green letters are right and in the right place in the word.
Gray letters are wrong and will not appear in the final answer.
Any letter that turns yellow is right, but in the wrong place in the word.

Using these clues, players must continue typing new words into the grid and get more color clues until they guess the word of the day, or if they run out of six tries. There is only one wordle per day, so players will have to wait until midnight for the next puzzle to roll around.
