
Jordan Peele's new movie no Premiering next week, it combines horror and sci-fi in what has already been teased as a mysterious alien film with the director's usual social commentary. The latest previews, however, take it a step further by calling the film "an absolute spectacle."
Peele, who made his horror debut in the critically acclaimed Outhas said that his main goal with Universal's no was to create a "great American UFO story," albeit one that delves into the rest of the themes the director is associated with, including comedy. no stars Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer as siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood respectively, while the rest of the cast is rounded out by the likes of Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea, Michael Wincott, Wrenn Schmidt, Donna Mills and Barbie Ferreira.
The last no trailer did confirm the film's otherworldly threat that fans of Peele's work had been speculating about in recent months. Now a few new teaser clips posted to Twitter do little to provide further clues about the film. Instead they are more about hype no ahead of its July release, especially the second that shows off a bit more of the movie's action as the flying saucer crashes into the Haywood farm.
Overall, the promotional efforts for the film have been quite extensive, with no get their own Universal Studios theme park. Based on one of the film's own locations, Jupiter's Claim park, the new attraction will, of course, open the same day the film comes out. Peele has confessed to writing no at a time when he was "worried about the future of cinema" in mid-2020, which is why he might have hoped that this is the kind of film that drives people to the cinema.
Some early fan theories have speculated whether no is really about aliens in the first place, because it would be incredibly unbranded for the director to mislead the audience in such a way. Many may be curious to see how Peele combines the UFO genre with his usual exploration of Blackness, especially at a time when the director has doubled down on the role race plays in his filmmaking vision.
no is just one of the recent highly anticipated horror movies, including: The black phonethough that's a new edit rather than an entirely original screenplay.
no is scheduled for a theater release on July 22, 2022.
