More specifically, malachite is used to make copper, a refined resource that can be processed into solar panels and other useful items. Astroneer: How to get Malachite?
Players who are in the initial stages of astronomer, and have not yet left the starting planet, must focus their hunt for malachite on the snowy mountains† These areas are indeed quite easy to get to with some cords, and they are one of the few places where the natural resource of interest can be found. Upon arrival at a mountain, survival video game fans should keep an eye out for green-brown crystals sticking out of the snow as these are the nodes from which Malachite can be extracted.
Note that there are a number of other locations where Malachite can be obtained, although players will not have as direct access to them as the aforementioned Snowy Mountains. One of those locations is deep underground on the starting planet, and fans will need to go below the layer where they can find Laterite in Astroneer† Much Malachite can also be found in the caves of Calidorthough players may not reach that planet for quite some time.
