Last week, a significant amount of specific information was leaked about the upcoming pokemon scarlet and pokemon violet. Prior to that, much of what was leaked was cryptic and unclear, due to the leaker’s preferences. One subject that has a lot of confusion surrounding it was formerly referred to as “Regional Fakes” or “RFakes”. Recent leaks have indicated that in pokemon scarlet and Toletthese types of Pokémon will be referred to as Converging Species.
The CentroLeaks Twitter account, which shares several dubious leaks about the pokemon franchise, recently collected some of the biggest leaks of the past week. This included a chart of all the “new” leaked Pokémon forms. This includes new Regional Forms, new Evolutions for older Pokémon, Ancient Forms, Future Forms, and Converging Species. The first four are straightforward, while Convergent Species needs a little more explanation despite being simple.
According to CentroLeaks, the new converging species will be almost visually identical to existing Pokémon. They look almost the same, “almost like a recolor”, but are “completely unrelated” to the original Pokémon and even have their own PokeDex number. With that in mind, these Converging Species will have wildly different typings compared to their original counterpart. Whether they are similar in other ways, such as temperament, personality, or behavior, remains to be seen.
So far, only one Converging Species has leaked to pokemon scarlet and Tolet until here. This Pokémon is believed to be Diglett, which will not be a Ground-type Pokémon, but a Water-type. It’s easy to imagine a new blue Diglett being renamed Swimlett or something similar rising out of the water just like Diglett does on the ground. This is the general idea behind Converging Species to pokemon scarlet and Tolet.
As for why Game Freak would choose to create Converging Species Pokémon, pokemon fans can only guess. The obvious answer is that it is much easier to develop a “new” Pokémon using the model of an old Pokémon. This is one way that pokemon scarlet and Tolet could reach over 120 new Pokémon with such a short development cycle.
To be clear, Converging Species were not announced for pokemon scarlet and Tolet still. It is entirely possible that it is a false leak or that it is not entirely accurate. If true, though, fans can expect to hear about Convergent Species soon, as there could be quite a number of new Pokemon debuting in pokemon scarlet and Tolet.
