10 Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla continues the open-world RPG formula of Origins and Odyssey and is set in Britain’s Viking Age. In this stunningly large open world, explore England in the violent Viking era, playing as either a male or female Eivor as you engage in the ancient battle between assassins and Templars.

The game brings back more refined stealth mechanics and the much-missed option to kill your enemies in one go. With raids, ship battles, a plethora of legendary weapons and even Viking rap battles, fans of the exciting era can experience every Viking fantasy imaginable. On PS5, the game is beautiful and a great choice for Extra subscribers.

Often hailed as one of the best fighting games in recent history, Mortal Kombat 11 has a lot to offer fans of the fighting genre. It has a huge number of characters and the single player content is a bloodthirsty stunner. For those looking for something a little more competitive, it also has an active multiplayer following.

The PS5’s increased resolution makes the horribly gruesome fatalities a sight to behold, and the faster loading times put you right back into the heart-wrenching battle the series is known for.

8 Control: Ultimate Edition

Control is a mind-blowing third-person action-adventure that stands proudly among Remedy Entertainment’s series of genre-defying unique works. You will explore the oldest house, the creepy shape-shifting headquarters, investigating all the strange and wonderful things.

7 Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy

After the disappointing release of Marvel’s Avengers, superhero fans collectively lowered their expectations for the release of Guardians of the Galaxy. Fortunately, the game stayed true to the much-loved tone that made the comic books and movies a huge success.

You’ll meet plenty of wacky characters along the way, including a purple llama and a psychic space dog in charge of an entire security operation. Yes really. The frenetic combat offers plenty of choice and the environments are breathtakingly beautiful, especially on PS5.

6 Ghost Of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is probably one of the most beautiful open world games ever made. You play as Jin Sakai as he embarks on a compelling tale of honour, betrayal, revenge and sacrifice on the island of Tsushima. Combat is deep-seated and engaging, using a stance system to tactically slice and dice through the approaching onslaught of Mongol invaders.

The director’s cut comes with a whole host of impressive upgrades and additions, including an all-new island to explore, heaps of new story content, DualSense support, and improved visuals on the PS5. This is the definitive way to experience one of Sony’s standout last-generation games.

5 Death Stranding: Director’s Cut

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut on PS5 is the best way to play Hideo Kojima’s bizarre masterpiece. This story-driven action-adventure is full of mystery and intrigue. You are essentially a post-apocalyptic delivery man, played by Norman Reedus, tasked with delivering essential goods to the remaining isolated colonies of a barren, monster-infested world.

The Director’s Cut takes advantage of the PS5’s superior performance and haptics, while also adding more missions, gear, and combat improvements. As daring, breathtaking and weird as you’d expect from a Kojima production, the story is a captivating experience that won’t soon be forgotten.

4 Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Building on the awesome gameplay of Insomniac’s Spider-Man, Miles Morales sees the titular character embark on a journey of superhero self-acceptance in a worthy standalone sequel. It brings the same sophisticated web-slinging mechanics from the previous game and adds a variety of features. Become invisible to enhanced stealth mechanics and use Mile’s unique access to bioelectricity with his poison powers, adding a powerful dimension to the fluid combat.

The game that started the entire legendary Souls series was sadly missed by many when it was first released in the PS3 era. Fortunately for those who missed the boat, Bluepoint’s complete remake of Demon’s Souls didn’t disappoint. There are several new additions such as gameplay and inventory system improvements, as well as the introduction of new weapons and smoother animations for a better overall experience.

A true PS5 exclusive, Demon’s Souls is a flagship title for what we can expect from next-generation gaming. The visual design is astonishingly beautiful, with a buttery smooth frame rate to boot.

2 Return

Returning from the shoot ’em up genre that helped build Housmarque’s name, Returnal is the studio’s first attempt at making an AAA game. The footage is as tight and responsive as you’d expect, but the core of the experience is in the immersive ‘die and repeat’ roguelike gameplay loop that slowly unravels a deeply mysterious story.

As a PS5 exclusive, it’s probably one of the console’s best showcases to date. It takes uniquely creative use of the adaptive triggers on the DualSense, takes full advantage of the PS5’s 3D audio, and the incredibly fast load times of the console’s SSD lend itself well to the game’s brutal difficulty.

1 strayed

Stray sees you take control of a very cute furry cat as he tries to find his way back to his family in a dystopian cyberpunk city run by robots.

You play as a delightfully charming kitty as you use your feline agility to leap and jump across the rooftops, solve puzzles and be extremely cute while doing it. I hope Sony continues this trend of releasing big day hits to make the new PS Plus service a little more rewarding, especially when compared to other services like Game Pass. You had me with cat.
