Manama (ALBH): The chairman of the board of Aluminum Bahrain BSC (Alba) – the largest aluminum smelter in the world ex-China – Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa, paid a field visit to Alba’s Casthouse 4 (CH4) on Sunday July 24, 2022.
Accompanied by Alba’s Chief Executive Officer Ali Al Baqali, Director Casthouse A. Rasool Ahmed A. Rasool and senior officials during his visit to the CH4 facility, the Chairman of the Board met with shop floor employees to thank them for asking of a new benchmark in the company’s safety performance and logging more than 28 million safe working hours without LTI.
Commenting on his visit to Alba’s Casthouse 4, Alba’s chairman Shaikh Daij said:
“We built Casthouse 4, our newest casting facility with state-of-the-art operations, to expand our portfolio of Value-Added Products (VAP). We aim to close 2022 with a minimum of 72% VAP Sales; surpassing our 2021 VAP sales of 63%.
I also thank our employees and contractor staff in CH4 for their commitment to meeting our production targets while operating on the principle of ‘Safety First, Safety Always’.”
Casthouse 4, which was commissioned in December 2018, is a key part of Alba’s Line 6 Expansion Project and has a built-in annual capacity of 530,000 tons per year for value-added products.

Alba Power Station 5 Block 4 Expansion Project
Alba Power Station 5 (PS5) Block 4 is a Combined Cycle Power Plant that is an extension of the existing PS 5.
PS5 Block 4 Project is the addition of a fourth block with a similar 1:1:1 configuration with class J gas turbine technology and with a minimum ISO nominal rating of 680.9 MW and including connection to the existing 220 kV substation. The efficiency of this combined cycle power plant is much higher than the combined cycle power plants of PS3 and PS4. Upon completion of the PS5 Block 4 Expansion Project, the capacity of PS5 will increase from 1,800 MW to 2,481 MW.
The Mitsubishi Power & SEPCO III consortium will be responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of Block 4. The commercial operations of PS5 Block 4 are expected to commence in Q4 2024.
Alba external complaint mechanism
Alba’s external complaints mechanism receives and facilitates the resolution of concerns and complaints from affected communities about Alba’s environmental and social (E&S) performance. External complaints about Alba’s E&S performance can be registered through the Alba Integrity Line – an independently operated confidential hotline for multilingual reporting – via a toll-free telephone system or via the intranet 24 hours a day.
Alba response to COVID-19 pandemic
Alba’s response strategy to COVID-19 was initiated in January 2020 in accordance with the guidelines of the Bahrain National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (COVID-19). The company was able to operate safely through 2021 thanks to its agile workforce – employees and contractor staff.
