With less than 2 months to go until the Amazon series debuts, another Rings of Power trailer has been released, and this latest exploration of the Second Age of Middle Earth finally gives audiences a glimpse of the character believed to be Sauron. This is the first time the dark lords’ name has been mentioned in any of the trailers, by a man (possibly a once golden knight of men, now exiled) holding a young boy with a strange mark or brand on his arm ( possibly a slave child, or a child marked with evil by a brush) somewhere in the far south, confirming what viewers have always suspected: the darkness that grows and spreads across the land is indeed the Sauron of the later Lord of the Rings trilogy.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

But the story of Sauron in the First and Second Centuries is very different from that of the War of the Ring, and the… Rings of Power will focus on his story just after Morgoth is captured and sealed. The Valar are in turmoil, Middle Earth is vulnerable and there are many great battles in these times that give Sauron exactly the chance he needs to take advantage of the carnage.

This is further elaborated in the latest Rings of Power trailer through a first look at the character believed to be Anatar, Sauron’s fair elf disguise. When Sauron reappears in Middle Earth after suffering the terrible defeat of his master and fleeing, he reappears under an illusion, a secret identity he uses to stay hidden from those who want to capture him. While protected by this cunning camouflage, Sauron manipulates Celebrimbor to forge the dark rings, which, unbeknownst to him, imbue Sauron with malice and betrayal. Sauron then takes these rings and again uses Anatar’s disguise to covertly embed them in the Seven Dwarf Lords and the 9 Kings of Man’s Property. As is known in Middle Earth lore, the rings of power have devastating effects, all of which stem from this new character in the latest Rings of Power trailer.

As for the first glimpse, Anatar appears to be the white elf with the piercing blue eyes, shaved head, and white robes shown in several quick scenes of the latest teaser. If this character is in fact elves, he certainly stands out among the others of his race, who are usually depicted with long, wavy hair and intricately woven circles on their heads. The character is certainly a mystery, but presents himself in almost every way as the opposite of Sauron: where Sauron is known for his black clothing, his pointed obsidian helmet and armor, and his heavy, menacing weapons, this character is dressed in white , with what appears to be a ceremonial elf staff in the shape of the sun, and has no recognizable features from any of the images of Sauron seen thus far.

Galadriel’s words cover the entire trailer, and she says, “Evil does not sleep…” before showing a scene of the mysterious cloaked figure in white peering over the edge of a hill with two companions. The voiceover dialogue then continues with “…it wakes up”, after which there is a close-up of the figure’s face, opening his eyes maliciously and looking toward something outside the camera’s line of sight. Both things are set up in such a way as to make the public believe that this mysterious figure in white is indeed the antagonist of the series, the “darkness” Galadriel is talking about, and therefore is actually Sauron in disguise as Anatar. This is also furthered later in the trailer by Galadriel’s ominous warning “he has not one name, but many”, confirming that Sauron’s multiple dual entities will play a part in the series.

These different appearances of the white-clad mysterious figure all lead to him blowing an autumn leaf through the dark caves, falling to the ground and going up in flames, before melting into the dark. The voiceover at this point says in an eerie voice “you’ve been told a lot of lies about Middle Earth,” which sounds exactly like something Sauron might say as he tries to manipulate people and gain their trust so that he can get them to his. can put hand. shall. The symbol of the leaf catching fire is a clear indication that this white elf is not who he says he is, and since fire is the element of Sauron, it reinforces identity as Anatar. It is also possible that the leaf burning in the dark is a signal to someone, or a creature, that something nefarious is about to happen. This might be tied to the Balrog seen at the end of the trailer, or it might be another evil brew from Sauron, but whatever it means, this slick, cunning and overly convincing form of Anatar doesn’t bode well for much. good for everyone.
