tThe PS5 is almost a few years old, and it’s fair to say that it has already built up an impressive library in that time. Hopefully the best is yet to come, but the console already has a library that is not only extensive, but also varied in many ways. A by-product of that, of course, is the fact that not all good games on it have received the same amount of attention and recognition, meaning there are plenty of great PS5 games out there that may not have gotten as much of the spotlight as they deserve. Here we are going to talk about a few such games.

UNPACKING

Unpacking just came out of nowhere. It was barely on anyone’s radar before it launched, but when it came out, it surprised everyone. Contrary to what the premise of a zen puzzle game about unpacking storage boxes might suggest, this is an experience that really stays with you when you’re done with it. The story it tells and the way it tells it is surprisingly effective, and the gameplay is also fun enough to keep you entertained.

tormented souls

Horror games have seen a massive resurgence in recent years, but for fans of the genre’s old-fashioned fixed-camera era, there aren’t many exciting new games to dive into, with a few exceptions. One of them is undoubtedly tormented souls, a hard-boiled fixed-camera survival horror game not to be missed for seasoned fans of the genre. If you crave something that takes heavy inspiration from the classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill spell, tormented souls is, despite the rough edges, an easy recommendation.

OLLIOLLI WORLD

Roll7 has tried new and exciting things with OlliOlli World which were very different from what the series was known for in the past, but it’s fair to say those ideas paid off. The skateboarding game is a slick, easy-to-control, consistently enjoyable experience that’s packed with a ton of personality. OlliOlli World’s charming setting, the beautiful visuals and the purely addictive nature of the mechanics ensure that there is something here that will appeal to almost everyone.

FAR: CHANGE TIDES

FAR Changing Tides

It won’t surprise anyone who played VER: Lone Sails that his successor, FAR: Tides change also turned out to be a solid adventure game. Whether or not it improves upon its predecessor is up for debate, but it has many merits in its own right. Whether it’s the post-apocalyptic world, the storytelling of the environment, the simple yet engaging puzzles and management mechanics, or anything else, there’s a lot to love in FAR: Tides change.

SIFU

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that sifu Not only is it one of the PS5’s most underrated games, it’s arguably one of the best games yet. SloClap’s kung fu brawler is a great experience in so many ways, from the spirited and challenging combat to the beautiful visuals, from the inherent replay value to the uniquely aged mechanics and all the strategy that comes with the experience. sifu is, from top to bottom, a game that is very well thought out, with ideas very well executed. Perhaps some initial post-launch anecdotes about the game’s difficulty have put some off, but since then the game has also added difficulty, which is all the more reason for more people to try it out.

GHOSTWIRE: TOKYO

ghostwire tokyo asset

Ghostwire: Tokyo is probably the only AAA developed and published game on this list, but it deserves no less to be here, as it may have been harshly rejected by many. An empty open world and generic structure and superficial combat have been criticized, and while it would be foolish to say that this game is flawless in every way, don’t make the mistake of being skippable. The atmosphere and atmosphere of the game are completely unique, and the overall experience is worth diving into, regardless of the general lack of novelty in the core gameplay ideas.

TUM

tum

Hand Drawn Photography Adventure Game TUM has flown under the radar for a lot of people, but as those who’ve played it will tell you, it’s definitely worth checking out. Make no mistake, as a simple look at TUM suggests, it’s a small-scale experience, but it’s also beautiful to look at, brimming with charm and personality, and simply delightful to play (mostly). Anyone who has 3-4 hours to spare should check this out.

FIST: FORGED IN SHADOW TORCH

You can never have too many Metroidvanias, but given the explosion in popularity in the genre in recent years, the new ones stand out in particular. FIST: Forged in Shadow Torch is definitely one of the new ones – just look at the deiselpunk setting or the anthropomorphic characters – but it hasn’t gotten as much attention as it probably should have. Maybe that’s because it’s launching near Metroid Dread, which didn’t leave much oxygen in the room for other Metroidvania, or maybe it’s for some other reason. Anyway, FISTs quality is undeniable and it is a game that will hopefully continue to attract players in the long run.

SNIPER ELITE 5

The stealth genre is one of the genres that has struck a kind of lull in recent years, with most of its major franchises at the moment and not many new stealth games coming out. If you are one of the many genre fans who are hungry for something good and new then look no further than Sniper Elite 5. Rebellion’s World War II stealth shooter combines superbly designed open world maps with engaging and dynamic stealth mechanics, emergent and reactive gameplay, choice-based approach to mission design, ultimately delivering one of the most enjoyable military stealth experiences we’ve had in quite some time.

MADISON

In recent years, a countless number of indie games have attempted the first person psychological horror lightning-in-a-bottle success of PT, and almost all of them have failed to do so. Bloodious Games’ recently released MADISON, however, is certainly a formidable effort, and one that shockingly manages to come close to those kinds of fears at best. It is truly terrifying when at its best, masterfully paced and incredibly atmospheric. For fans of horror games, it is almost impossible to miss.

tHE RISES

The Ascent_04

We’ve had bad taste with cyberpunk RPGs lately, although of course some have had better experiences than others. Neon Giant’s the ascent, is an absolute triumph, for example. The cyberpunk world is beautifully realized, beautiful to watch and an absolute joy to explore and exist in. The two-stick combat is tense and consistently enjoyable whether you’re playing solo or co-op. The progression and loot mechanics are captivating and offer a deep and flexible progression system. For all these reasons and more, the ascent is a very simple game to recommend to most people.

KENA: BRIDGE OF SPIRITS

maybe call Kena: Bridge of Ghosts may not seem quite right, given how long the game was expected to take in the lead up to launch, but given how much of the spotlight tends to be preoccupied with the AAA stuff, we’d say kena still deserves more time in the spotlight. Ember Lab’s debut action-adventure title is a beautiful game, with stunning visuals and art design and a solid execution of the classic Zelda formula, which offers a healthy mix of combat, puzzles and exploration. Hopefully Ember Lab has more kena content cooks because this is a world we can’t wait to return to.

DEATH GATE

Speaking of solid action adventure games inspired by the classic The Legend of Zelda games, if that’s the kind of thing you’re looking for, you really can’t go wrong with Death Gate. The indie hit from Acid Nerve offers excellent level designs and puzzles, punishing and crushing combat and boss fights, and almost the perfect blend of exploration and dungeon crawl, all wrapped up in a charming world. Maybe the stiff difficulty of the game puts some people off, but for those who want a challenge, Death Gate is an absolute gem.

THE ROADLESS

the toadless one

the toadless one has been available on PS5 since day one and given the tightly packed window it launched in, it’s hardly surprising that it was sort of swept under the tide. But as those who have played it will tell you, the toadless one deserves all the attention. Giant Squid’s action-adventure game offers smooth and fast movement, enjoyable exploration, diegetic world design, beautiful visuals and much more. the toadless one is easily one of the most notable experiences on the PS5 and deserves far more attention from the masses.

WIFI: A COLORFUL STORY

Chicory: a colorful one Story received high praise when it launched last year and received praise for its beautiful visual aesthetic, its surprisingly engaging mechanics, its beautiful story and more, yet it feels like it wasn’t played by nearly as many people as a game that should have been this good to be. Chicory finds that tricky balance between quality and being new, so it’s honestly a little surprising that it hasn’t been in the conversation more.
