There are LOTS of video games that focus on destruction and “getting things out of the way”. But that’s a lot MORE games that require you to do nothing more… than build things and make your own world. For those who want that on Xbox, here are the 10 best Xbox Series XS City Builders!
#10 Planet Base

Let’s first look at things on a literal planetary level. Because in Planetbase you are in charge of a group of settlers trying to make a home on an alien world. That may sound easy at first, but it isn’t at all.
In fact, your job is to guide them every step of the way so that they can not only survive but thrive. It won’t be the same every time either, as there are four different planet types you can try to thrive on, and each has its own challenges to overcome.
So if you think you can make life work on another planet… you might want to try Planetbase.
#9 Tropico 5

Okay, so you don’t want to colonize a space world, that’s fine, and you want to have a rule that is indisputable, right? Good for you, here’s Tropico 5.
Because in this popular “Dictator Sim” series, things are very much yours to control and build up, not just across the entire island chain you’re on, but through literal eras of human history. You will start from the days when you were a settler, to surviving world wars, the cold war and many other threats that time likes to throw on flourishing places.
Invest and improve your land, trust your family and use them for further dominance, then play against other players at the same time to show who is the best El Presidente.
#8 Aven Colony

Oh, what’s that? You don’t want to be a dictator and try space again? Fine! Here’s Aven Colony.
Oh, but we’re not giving you the easy way out this time, because Aven Colony doesn’t just put you in an alien world that you need for settlers to thrive. No, you’re put on an alien world that just happens to be incredibly dangerous, has a lot of natural disasters to deal with, and… it’s inhabited by various creatures, including giant sandworms!
You must build the future as you explore the past and see what made this place what it was. So jump in and see if you can survive.
#7 Prison Architect

Ah, you’re more careful about what you say now, aren’t you? Good for you, but you still have to pay a price, so we’ll send you to jail!
In particular Prison Architect, a construction game where you become the guard of a prison complex and your job is to try to keep everything in line, or else.
You might be thinking, “I’ll just build walls to keep them all in!” yes, it’s not that easy. Some of these prisoners require special treatment to keep them locked up. And if you keep them together, they can cause a riot.
So grab what you need to build the best prison and make sure no one breaks out… ever.
#6 Tropico 6

Surprised? You shouldn’t be, this series is VERY popular, and so Tropico 6 definitely had to happen, and so, if you liked the first one, you’ll like this one too!
So what are the main differences this time around? Well, instead of having one island to build on, you now have access to a huge archipelago of islands to build on. Seriously, you can build on multiple islands at once, expanding your empire in a variety of ways.
As if that weren’t enough, you can even send your agents to steal the wonders of the world… so they can be displayed wherever you want.
Oh yeah, it’s good to be bad, and Tropico 6 will show you that.
#5 Survival on Mars

Yes, space is back! But this time, you can actually make the dream of many in our world come true, to be a settler on Mars.
In Surviving Mars, you actually start out slow and work your way up. You pick an agency to work with and get resources, and then you go out and pick a spot of Mars to build your first set of structures. Once that’s done? You begin to expand, carefully managing each person in the colony to ensure they are used to their fullest and also cared for in the best of ways.
But not only that, you can explore Mars and finally see what secrets it hides. Are you in?
#4 Jurassic World Evolution 2

This one is apt because of the movie that just came out and has been doing pretty well at the box office lately.
Jurassic World Evolution 2 is the sequel to the game that lets you honestly build your own dinosaur-themed section and try to keep it running without eating people left and right (unless you wanted to, at least). With the sequel, they expanded it in several ways. Including how many game modes you have, the different dinosaurs you can bring into the mix, and more.
Every dinosaur must be held securely, and if you don’t… there will be chaos. So if you think you can do better than Chris Pratt and others, Jurassic World Evolution 2 is waiting for you.
#3 Astronier

So what is it this time? Oh, want a space game that’s deep, but also more fun and less intense than the others? We can help with this via Astroneer. In this game you are sent on a mission to explore 7 different planets in the solar system, collect resources and build bases on them.
However, the upside is that there is a bit of Minecraft in this game as you can terraform a large part of the world to make it what you want. You can build bases above or below ground and explore to your heart’s content.
You can even play with friends and explore the universe together!
#2 Constructor

You could argue that a lot of these games we’ve shown you are a little…stiff…with the rules…so what if we just…break them all? Constructor lets you start out as someone who wants to become a real estate tycoon. Pretty basic, right?
But you are not a nice person in the game and you can use all the means at your disposal to reach the top. That includes using a variety of “savory characters” to “get the job done” without leading right back to you.
You’re still going to build stuff, just want to be clear about that. But that doesn’t mean you have to build them…perfect…after all, it’s all about money and growth. Cutting corners… is just part of the game.
#1 Cities: Skylines

If you’re looking for the ultimate city builder that Sim City isn’t? Then you must have Cities: Skylines, because this game has everything you need to have perhaps the best building experience you’ve ever had.
Because in other games you just build things and “grow” them, but here you’re really tasked with making not just a city, but a city that works. You have to consider what the citizens are saying, help them grow in the ways they really need to, and deal with natural things that can happen to the city over time.
The game is truly an “easy to learn, hard to master” title, and with all the DLC in it? You are going to play for a while.
